Bioshock now available for PS3. Great reviews…

I loved it.

“loved” = “I have already played/beat this game” = … on 360 [since it just came out for PS3]

Correct?

I’m not him, but that’s correct. I played through it twice on 360 and didn’t regret one second of it.
The ambience in that game…truly amazing. I’m so impressed when a game ‘world’ is believable, eerie, and memorable. Half-life was like that for me. Bioshock did it as well.

Everyone in charge of creating the feel of a game deserves mad respect.

You all forgot about Far Cry 2 as well.

Man, I wonder if someone will be able to mod a 360 to run on an AMD/ATI card that’s at least 2 generations ahead of what it is currently running on, stock. Or maybe even try SLI’ing two cards?

I don’t know if it’s possible to take the system apart and somehow modify the hardware to use graphics cards mounted externally off of the main PCB of the system. I’d be curious to see how the system pushes frame rates at 1080p resolution.

Speaking of modding the 360. Any of you hear about replacing the internal optical drive with a BenQ drive? I read that somewhere and the result was a MUCH more silently operating DVD drive. Too bad it voids warranty.

I didn’t think the new dashboard launched until the 19th or so.

10 Xbox 360 tricks:

4. Play Xbox 360 games online for free - without a Live account

That you have to pay a subscription for online gaming, something that’s free on other consoles and on the PC, is perhaps the 360’s greatest bugbear. Stage your own form of peaceful process by playing online without paying a penny. You’ll need XLink Kai, a free app you run from a PC on the same network as the console that tricks the 360 into thinking the internet is a LAN.

So it’ll treat remote opponents as though they’re in the same room as you ? and you don’t have to pay for local multiplayer. Clever! One snag ? Microsoft has set the 360 to boot out anyone with a ping higher than 30ms, so you’ll have to be selective about who you play with. Local chums are best, not your Chinese penpal.

Bujo,

I’m hoping Jasper clears all that shit up. 65nm process GPU die and it’s said to require at least 50W (!!!) less power, so I think even the power brick will be smaller. Less power = less heat…

I don’t think they’ll be available in volume until after January, though.
It sounds promising. I should be able to exchange my old Elite for new one at Best Buy. I’ll be checking the tags for manufacturing dates. I wonder if there will be a specific team associated with the new hardware?

What do you mean a ‘specific team’ ? Do you mean a serial number denoting the Jasper units?

http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3440&p=1

It appears that these are a mix of existing stock that has been repackaged and truly new systems. Some of the repackaging is being done in-store, but a lot of it is being done by one of Microsoft’s facilities, who is marking the systems with team “ADUE.”

That?

From that article it sounds like it’s still best to wait until after holidays, certainly until January/Feb when Jasper should be out ‘in the wild’ and hence easier to identify based on reports from users. I’ll definitely wait.

Each Xbox can be identified by manufacture date, lot number, and team. These three identifyers are on the packaging itself and were used in determining Falcon units. The team should denote the specific manufacturer and site. I’m hoping once a few sightings of Jasper units are noted then I might have some idea of what to look for. Of course this is all in hopes that I can simply exchange 360s at Best Buy and not having to go thru M$.

If I recall the BB’s service plan didn’t cover RRoD, 4 solid red lights. I have 3 blinking red lights, but have seen folks on the web refer to this as RRoD. BB’s customer service wasn’t particularly helpful in discussing the finer points of dying 360s and their service plan.

Also I want to exchange it (if I can) as soon as possible. I imagine after Thanksgiving finding an Xbox will become a bit more difficult. So finding a Jasper unit is second to just finding a new unit.

If the estimated length of time until Jasper hits stores en masse is GREATER than the duration of your current console’s return clause - say you have 60 or 90 days to return / exchange it, for instance - then I recommend you exchange your unit at the tail end of this time frame so you can buy yourself another X amount of days and essentially ‘reset’ this time frame, if indeed you have to wait longer for Jasper to become available.

If that made no sense…

Say you have 90 days to return or exchange your 360. And say this 90 day window is up BEFORE Jasper is widely available.

Exchange your unit toward the end of the 90 days so hopefully this buys you a ‘fresh 90 day’ time frame, and lets you ride out the wait for Jasper.

Then, you can exchange again, hopefully able to swap it for one of the now-common Jasper units that might be available at Best Buy.

Hell yes, sir, hell yes.

I’m really thinking about tagging this as one of the greatest late-season pushes for games I’ve ever seen.

Can you run a DS emulator on the PSP? I can’t believe Sony won’t come out with classics like Chrono Trigger and Phantasy Stay (wait, I think PS is coming out)…

I do hope they bring Earthworm Jim 4 for PSP, though. That’d be sweet.

And Syndicate Wars which I know is being re-released!!!

I get what your saying. With the service plan I could probably wait almost a year to exchange my 360. The real question is, would I want to? That is a definate no. I tend to be impatient and impulsive, which doesn’t bode well with the idea of me waiting 90 days sans Xbox. Especially since there should be no monetary costs on my end.

Also BB’s service plans can be extended. If I have a year left now I should be able to extned the plan another year or two which would effectively cover the life of a new 360. Then when that one breaks, as it seems to be a case of ‘when’ and ‘if’, I could exchange it then for what should be a now common Jasper unit. Plus I would have the benefit of improved manufacturing quality.

Great minds think alike. Suddenly, I don’t feel so sick (minded).

Not sure if there is one out there or not. I’d think it’d be tough to do since pretty much every DS game out there involves the usage of both screens.

Warning: If you install this you can’t connect to Xbox Live until the 19th or so, I know it sucks, especially with GoW2 over the horizon.

But come on, for the sake of humanity everywhere someone be a guinea pig.
