Orcarina of time is enough for me to buy it
Alright. I’m not sure how many other T-Nationers know about computers, but I just built a new one. 3.8 ghz intel i7, OC’d geforce 570 gtx, 8 gigs of ram, running on windows 7 with Directx 11. With an incredible streak of good luck, I also was invited to participate in playing the Battlefield 3 alpha. It is by far the most fun I have had in years playing a first person shooter. Besides it looking incredibly realistic, it also sounds fantastic with tons of depth and is a great deal of fun as well.

Not sure if I’m more jealous of the rig or the alpha invite. Depending on the accessories(case, heatsink, fans, etc) sounds like you built a $1200+ machine, wish my budget could fit that in to play all these games about to come out on ultra =p
Nice setup man. I’m using something very similar (i7 920 @ 3,4ghz, GTX 485 and 12gb ram), but I’m very envious on the invite. Battlefield 3 looks bad ass. Definitely looking to pick that up with MW3.
On an unrelated note, I’ve been invited to a market research gathering of around 16 people in London the 10th of August for the Windows Phone. £60 for our trouble and we get some surprises too, supposedly.
Being a tech geek, I hope they show us the upcoming phones and then some. It’s going to be sweet, finally I can give MS my opinion 1st hand.

I thought Wolverine was a slave owner in the south accoriding to Origin?

Love building computers also (put together a quad core with 3.8ghz X 4 about a year ago), numbers on yours look like you put together a sick rig, video quality is amazing as well.
Can we get a picture of the actual beast? or did you keep the desktop case and cooling systems pretty simple (non-flashy)?
OMFG OMFG OMFG!
DIABLO 3 BLOWOUT THIS WEEK!
MY BODY IS READY!

Origins was lame. Both the movie and the books.

Be more jealous of the alpha invite. The one thing that the vid doesn’t do any justice to, is the realism of the character models and how they move in every situation. Typically they just don’t look natural on other games, whereas in BF3, they move so realisitically…the other thing I noticed is a slight change in brightness of the environment/landscape whereas when the sun gets temporarily dampened by clouds and then when they pass everything lights up again…just the tiny little details like these of the engine really gives the game a realistic feeling.
Also, that is not a video of the game on my PC…the alpha runs and looks much more smooth (60+ frames) on mine, so I’m guessing his rig isn’t quite as powerful. Also…yeah probably cost about $1200 to build. I’ve been slowly acquiring the components over the past couple of months and finally got the motherboard, windows 7/dx11, i7 and DDR3 RAM on Friday to complete.

Yeah nice set you have as well. My mobo maxes out at 16 gigs of RAM and that will likely be my next upgrade soon.

The cooling system actually does appear to be stock although I do have a plexiglass side case Ill get a picture of. I also should put up a video of BF3 on my system…the vid I put up was someone else playing on a different computer and doesn’t do the game justice.

If you haven’t already, be sure to get yourself a Solid State Drive when you can. I have a little 80gb as my primary, and a 1TB for all my files. The difference in responsiveness is just amazing.
This should hold me through for another 3 or so years.

Nice setup man. I just looked into purchasing 2 8gb sticks of ram…$400!!! Wow. 8 will do for now…I also saw two 6 gb sticks for just $100, so that will most likely be my next upgrade instead of right to the 16.
That’s also a great idea to have a SSD. Did you essentially just install your OS and drivers etc on the solid state and your games and pictures on your 1TB HD? I’ll have to think about doing that too…

If there is any man who should be getting more work in Hollywood…it is Guillermo.
Disclaimer: I know there’s that “Movies You Watched This Week Thread,” but what I’m about to discuss seemed more appropriate here due to the “geekiness” of the subject matter.
I watched two movies within the last few days, movies from my childhood that I really had not seen since then. I mostly watched them for the sake of nostalgia, but I also sometimes like to see if movies from back in the day still “hold up.” I was quite surprised by the results.
Batman Returns - Simply put, this movie is pure shit. I can’t even recall how many times I cringed while watching this, especially when DeVito was on-screen. This movie was clearly a case of my liking it because I was so young when I last saw it (I was only 10 when it came out, and I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen it since the theatre). Still love 89’ Batman, though. Saw that not too long ago and it definitely still holds up.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - This is the one of the two that I expected to be a joke . . . and it’s still awesome. Other than the few cheesy one-liners and “Gnarly!,” “Bodacious!,” etc. stuff(I know that’s an element of the characters/comics, but it was just overdone here), this movie was still really good, in my opinion. For an intended “kids movie,” anyway. Too bad they ruined it with II and III.

Damn. I have 6 x 2gb sticks, which cost about $200 at the time. I’m not sure you’ll notice a huge performance increase from 8 to 12gb, but the SSD will definitely be worth it.
Pretty much yes on the SSD - install the OS & programs on the primary drive, and everything else (including games) on the 1TB. You may notice a benefit from having games on the SSD too, but I just don’t have the space to keep them on there. Besides, with everything else you have pushing the games, I think you’ll have little need to.
