Geek S**T The SIXTH

Guillermo might have the Rulk as the main villian in his Hulk TV show. I hope they do have true super villians in this live action show, one of my biggest complaints was the lack of a rogues gallery in the Hulk series

He’s not that funny. I think he might have made a decent Deadpool given the right script. However, I do believe he has dug his own grave now with that GL movie. I get the feeling he fills a similar fantasy for some women as that Brandon Routh. Maybe the next casting director shouldn’t be a woman…OR a guy who wants to screw the actor. LOL[/quote]

I liked Ryan Reynolds in Buried. He managed to keep the cocky smartass persona in check most of the time but then, being locked in a box for eighteen hours a day isn’t the ideal setting for cracking one-liners…

However, he did nothing to make Hal Jordan likeable, which is a pre-requisite in a movie where a guy is singled out from billions of others as guardian of the galaxy. The ring must’ve been low on charge that day, I guess.

I used to like him, but like that song on the radio that you like, but after gets played a billion fucking times just loses its luster.

He needed to be smart with his movie selection cause he could end up burnt.

I wonder if he can carry a lead, enjoyed him more as a support.

On another note, I re-watched the A-Team again, guilty pleasure but I still enjoyed this movie. Roy heard anything about a sequel?

I see what you mean about him being better in support. He was quite subtle in Smoking Aces, but then there was little room in that movie for his usual routine because of all the larger than life characters around him … He can play it straight when he has to, but those kind of performances are outnumbered by the goofy ones - it could be a confidence issue that he feels most comfortable when acting the fool since he does it so much… they say many performances are made in the editing room, so maybe it takes a certain kind of director to draw the serious side out of him.

Contrast him with Chris Evans, who started out playing the same type of character. Both have several comic book adaps under their belts. When you look at Evans’ recent movies, you can see RR is coasting through his career in comparison. Chris Evans has really come along as an actor; Ryan Reynolds is well, the same old Ryan Reynolds.

They say an A-Team sequel is unlikely. Didn’t make enough money to warrant a follow-up, apparently.

^ Figures. And I agree on the Chris Evans, since those two crackers are almost one in the same type of actor for awhile. Did you see The Nines with RR?

Yes. Odd little movie, but I liked it all the more for that. One of Ryan Reynolds’ better movies IMO.

Same here, I watch a lot of movies, I do not get as in depth as you do (reason why I bug you so much on here) but I thought he showed some depth in that one at least.

I got “buried” but didnt end up watching it, my stepson watched it and advised me not to.

Should I watch it? Its on Netflix.

That’s a tough call. I know I liked it, but I watched it because it’s not just two hours of Reynolds trapped underground in a coffin. The director does some really inventive stuff with the box; he experiments with angles, shots, lighting and different sizes of box to create atmosphere. He said he wanted to treat the box as a “second character”.

It might make a difference that I saw it on the big screen. If you’re indifferent to RR, it’s not required viewing. But if you like the sound of the rest of what I said, and don’t mind a few plot holes here and there, I say give it a shot. You could do far worse.

Thanks I have no problem watching it, just like the input.

Other news, plan on getting Dead Island tomorrow, not today. Too much temptation to play and not take care of some things this evening.

Roy I watched a Japanese film yesterday I believe the title had “Man with no name” however I could be wrong. I cant get on Netflix here at work. Do you know which one I am talking about?

Cool. I always feel hesitant to rec. a movie outright to someone when they say they’ve been advised against watching it. All I can do is explain why I liked it. I know you’re big on movies so I gave some reasons that would appeal to you. Some would find that stuff boring.

To quote Han Solo: “there’s no accounting for taste”.

Sorry, D. Haven’t seen it.

I have to find out that name of that movie. I watched about 10 this weekend and this was by far the best.

Also my step-son is 18 and has the attention span of a spider monkey.

I trust him on games and computers. I trust you on movies. Wol only for B movies.

Okay found it. If you like this type of movie this is a must watch, I enjoyed it more than Old Boy.

I do I enjoyed the movies and look forward to this, love the note at the end about R rating.

Seksi. The games were the shit too, did you play them?

Roy: In reference to Zod, I completely get where you’re coming from, and I agree for the most part. Where I think a lot of writers have fumbled the ball is in how they depicted Superman needing X amount of time (varying according to incarnation) to soak up the sunlight like a battery and develop his powers, and how Zod seems to do it the moment he’s exposed to a yellow sun. But then comics have rarely been praised for the quality of their writing.

While Zod’s more highly trained, I’d expect that Superman would have an edge in raw power – and far more experience in utilizing his powers. But no, he certainly shouldn’t have an easy time in dealing with Zod.

As for Reynolds as GL – I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’ll admit that I thought it was a good pairing. Jordan was supposed to be a cocky, charismatic and (in some incarnations) wise-cracking test pilot. I think Reynolds’ had the chops to pull it off, and the kind of role is 2nd nature to him. Many of the reviewers who panned the flick gave Reynolds’ a thumb’s up for his performance, but dissed the movie’s script and director.

Same deal with the new Conan. Many seem pleased with the actor, but the writers and director managed to turn out a bad film. (Which, having seen that one, I’ll agree with)

Yep I played the last one, was fun for sure.

I liked Vin in this role, dude is also serious gamer, so he has some nerd/geek in him.

Strange…one review I read described Reynolds’ performance as “a floating head” - which made me LOL. In the “cocky, charismatic and wise-cracking” departments, the charisma seemed to have been scared off by Parallax.

Hector Hammond was creepier before he underwent his transformation (desperately trying to avoid spoilers here)…which leads to the biggest mystery of all: why would a hotty like Carol Ferris fall for either of these losers?

Wait, what happened to him becoming king of the undeadvampireghoul empire in The Chronicles of Riddick? Are they going to ignore that ending?

Where is Zoe Saldana’s fine ass?
