Geek S**T NUMBER 5

Also, weren’t RRoD xbox’s only replaced free within their warranty, like any other hardware device would be? I’d hate to be that sad person who got down to their last week of warranty and almost WANT to see it happen so you can get your new one sent out and not be fucked when it did it the day after. Even if I am misinformed on that part, RRoD was a huge product failure, even if they gave you back a refurb’d machine it became an expected inconvenience of having a 360 that at some point you’d lose 2 weeks to that shit happening.

360’s only red ringed from overheating - if people kept them in a well ventilated area it wouldn’t happen. Not defending them in any way, this was just my experience, since mine had 3 red lights after not turning off a gas heater near the TV unit.

It was replaced after being 3 years old, as well.

Haha, yeah I think memory sticks will be cheap enough to use instead of DVDs in the future, and the alternative will be to download all your games without any media at all.

Watch MS in the next few years, the company is making some serious products.

just started gachitora from psp and it’s just like kenkabancho/gto, it’s simply awesome.

I have self control. Did the X-Box finally get an internal wireless? Or do you have to buy that peripheral antenna thing?[/quote]

Yup the new generation has built-in wireless and 1 month free Xbox Live subscription so you can take it for a free spin with yo cheap ass.

CCCCCCCOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL. Damn maybe I out to buy one so I can be one of the cool kids.

You guys would just kill my ass in online gaming, can anyone say cannon fodder?

A lot of people still have shitty broadband connections. And until wireless broadband reaches good speed and reasonable price, a lot of people in villas or apartments built before broadband was big might prefer to simply buy a disc over waiting 20 hours for a movie or game to download.

HDDs are down to 5 cents a GB or something, right? Might take some time before a memory stick is cheaper than a blueray disc.

Only reason this doesn’t piss me off more is the fact I am going to be working out of town for 2 weeks.

Anyone play Steam games such as Day of Defeat and Left 4 Dead? If so, add me Fuzzyapple31. I’ve been playing Arma II as well lately. Basically a realistic first person shooter simulation, as real as it can get.

I’ve heard everyone gets a free game (probably one of the smaller ones from the PSN Store) + 1 month free of PSN+ (so you get some games/DLC for cheaper).

But yeah - the network being down for over 1 month sucks.

Anyone feel like trying Brink out with me this week or weekend? Playing with randoms has lost it’s appeal.

I bought my current router for around $40. If you have a game console, you can afford a router.

Yeah, I’m not saying that kind of service would be implemented in all countries, but it could definitely be rolled out in stages in the coming years.

Most of the developed countries have decent enough broadband, and I think if 24 million people can get on Xbox live, they can also download the games.

Microsoft just bought Skype… for $8.5 billion.

They overpaid by $4 billion for it.

Also goodbye smallville.

COD just needs to give it a rest, I think. All they do is add a few more guns, a couple new maps, accents and boom we makes a billion dollhairs. Most likely, we will see MW 194, it will be like UFC with all their numbers.

Tell that to the millions of people who still eat up the yearly rendition. Even a fairly sharp dropoff from Black Ops sales(13million+ in the US alone) and they could get close to the billion dollar sales mark again, why the fuck WOULDN’T they make the same thing again with minor changes for a new year.

I agree if I were a company trying to make money and knew games (such as COD) made millions of dollars I to would put that game out time and time again.

PSN is coming back online, slowly - I think a lot of US states should have service already.

Sixteen-Year-Old Helps Develop Possible Treatment for Cystic Fibrosis
May 15, 2011 8:47 PM

A 16-year-old high school student may have found a new, viable treatment for cystic fibrosis through the use of computer simulations.

Marshall Zhang, an 11th grade student at Richmond Hill’s Bayview Secondary School in Toronto, Canada, used a supercomputer system to figure out how certain drugs react with proteins associated with cystic fibrosis.

Cystic fibrosis is a recessive genetic disease that causes thick mucus to build up in the lungs and throughout the body causing progressive disability and even death. This disease occurs in about 1 out of 3,000 live births, and has no cure.

Zhang grew interested in disease-related research after taking Advanced Placement Biology in the 10th grade. He wanted to work in a laboratory with real scientists, so he started getting in touch with local professors to see if he could participate in their research labs.

While many biochemistry professors at the University of Toronto rejected Zhang’s idea due to his lack of experience, Dr. Christine Bear, a researcher at the Hospital for Sick Children’s Research Institute in Toronto, welcomed him to her lab.

While working at Bear’s lab, Zhang utilized the Canadian SCINET supercomputing network to see how new compounds reacted to the proteins associated with cystic fibrosis. Through a series of computer simulations, he found that a combination of different drugs could be used simultaneously without impacting one another to treat cystic fibrosis. In fact, these findings were tested on living cells proved to be effective.

“I have identified certain chemical structures that are key in the corrective effects of these molecules, as well as identified two molecular targets on the protein for future therapeutics,” said Zhang.

Zhang realizes that his discovery may not pan out once tested on humans because treatments sometimes turn out to be ineffective or even toxic. But he believes his research will be crucial to cystic fibrosis studies regardless.

Zhang’s research landed him a first place award at the 2011 Sanofi-Aventis BioTalent Challenge on Tuesday, which is a contest where students conduct research projects with mentors.
