quick question for the group before I go out and spend $250 - the usb modems that are available now can you just plug one into the xbox and get on xbox live(assuming you have a gold thing for xbox live)?

To get on XBL (which you can do even if you don’t have the Gold version - you just can’t play multiplayer games) you must connect your console using an ethernet cable. I checked the manual and there’s no mention anywhere of connecting to a modem using USB.

That’s just your incentive to buy the new version when they ship a sequel in the next two months.

There’s wireless network adapter that uses one of the USB ports on the 360. I’m wondering if that’s what he’s referring to.

They do sell an adapter to make the 360 “wireless” - but you still have to plug something into the CAT 5 port.

I skipped the network wireless adapter and just bought an extra-long ethernet cable and run that from my router to my 360.
That’ll save you some money if your 360 is close enough to your router that you can connect the 2 with a cable. Mine is just one room away and down a little hallway, so the 25-foot ethernet cable works for me. They also sell 50-foot ones if you need more range.

Just reset the modem, quickly reconfigure it and set your own password.

There is usually a reset/restore button on the router or you can go to the manufacturer’s home page. There you can find the default IP address for the router and re-configure the settings or just learn the password.

SWEET!
They’re making a Whiteout movie. If you haven’t read Whiteout, its a very good murder mystery set in Antarctica by Greg Rucka. Greg Rucka is considered to be one of the “Big Four” writers at DC Comics. The main character, Carrie Stetko, is something of Antarctica history buff and shares many of the facts with the reader. These little tidbits plus the art work’s portrayal of the stark environment really sucks the reader into the bleak frigid territory.

It’s starring Kate Beckinsale
