Warner Bros. are to throw down the gauntlet to Marvel by releasing a Justice League movie in 2015 - the same year as Avengers 2 is released:

Doesn’t sound like a wise move, not with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel apparently being a stand alone franchise. They’re allowing very little time for the new Superman to breathe - and they’re planning to do the opposite of Marvel’s approach and deliver the team-up movie first, then solo movies afterwards.
It could work, but only if it’s really good. I think Marvels approach was better, but had one or two of the films flopped, like Cap of Thor, Avengers wouldn’t have done as well.
If the Justice League movie is good it should help drive sales in all the solo movies. I;m stoked either way though. I love these movies…make em all I say!
I don’t object to a Justice League movie. Two things concern me about the way WB is going about this; the main one regarding the intended release date. We all know Man of Steel is released next year. That gives WB a mere two years to tie up what is presumably supposed to be a trilogy. Compare that to the near decade Nolan had to conclude the Batman movies and you’ll see my point: WB are either rushing into this or they’ve written off MoS as a flop before its been released.
It’s highly unlikely that Man of Steel will lead into a Justice League movie (Chris Nolan already declined to even consult on a Justice League franchise). To present a separate incarnation of Superman in Justice League is a bad idea.
Then there’s Warner’s track record with JL charter members - patchy at best, with one exception.
Even if you’re the kind of fan who liked Superman Returns and Green Lantern, Marvel are still way ahead. WB can’t afford to rush either MoS or JL.
I agree.
They could opt to reboot evey character off the Justice League movie. That’s a big gamble though.
They’ll certainly have to present a heightened version of Batman for JL(wrote enough about that in the Dark Knight Rises spoiler thread). What they shouldn’t do is release a JL movie with another Superman (for all intents and purposes) while the previous reboot (Man of Steel) is still running.
In that event they wouldn’t be able to run two separate Superman franchises simultaneously. Let’s say they did complete the MoS trilogy by 2015 (one movie a year even close to the quality of Nolan’s Batman is unlikely, even if they shot 2 & 3 back-to-back).

Hopefully they’ll go the route of the Avengers and not like the Nolan Batmans. I enjoyed the more realistic take, but I would rather see the aliens/supernatural elements in a JLA movie.
They wouldn’t dare do another grounded Batman in such company. The potential is there and I’d like to see a serious, all-action Batman without so much personal baggage.
Joss Whedon made Avengers fun without being campy, and critics need to remind themselves that the last movies to juggle that many lead characters were Mortal Kombat and Streetfighter (it’s really the first comic book movie to be serious while mocking itself). WB/DC just ping-pong between extremes.
It’s either deadly serious or soap opera in tights.
Superheroes have enough exposure now that WB can start with a team-up movie then do solo movies (thanks to Marvel), but the risk is still there: when Marvel were a fledgling studio, they hired an indie director and cast a talented but troubled actor who a few years previously had to call in favors to get a job on Ally McBeal because nobody would insure him.

Do you think the Green Arrow TV show is going to play into the JLA move at all?
It’s a faux-Nolanization of Green Arrow (another rich guy with no powers). Haven’t seen it so can’t criticize it, but it seems to be a self-contained story. Probably has as much of a link to the JL movie as the new WW TV series - and WB had first dibs on Joss Whedon to write and direct a Wonder Woman movie, then let him go. Not a good sign.
