Geek S**T 3 Gen

Quick geeky question: I need a new MP3 player. I hate Apple.

I recently bought a Sandisk Sansa. Big mistake. The thing is a piece of shit (and I can’t return it).

So, does anyone have any MP3 player recommendations? I’d really like to avoid paying out the ass for an IPod <_<

Don’t know your price range…but I would look at Microsoft Zune MP3 players.

OK, so this is for ‘future geeks’: Poptropica

If you have kids like 6-10 or so (or adults who, uh, like addicting games…) who are Internet saavy and like to solve mysteries, Poptropica (www.poptropica.com) is free and very entertaining (and somewhat educational in problem solving). Takes a few hours to get through each map (kids a little longer without help).

They learn to pay attention to details of conversations (clues), ordering of events, and certainly some patience. I find myself laughing out loud at some of the things in the game. Very ‘family friendly’ if you value that in kid oriented geeky games.

Even hardcore adult gamers can get sucked into this cool (cute) little game.

How did you find the Elite console for $100??

eBay. I just found it 15 minutes before the auction ended. Seller had a 99% approval rating with over 15k reviews. And it’s $100 shipped.

I’m going to open mine up and just try to run it without the housing at all, see what happens.

I love my iRiver Clix gen 2 8gb, however it does seem a little dated when comparing to the latest mp3 players on the market. It’s still a great little player - have a look into it.

No mention of Uncharted 2 yet? Oh for shame my PS3 brethrens:

If you have Infamous, you should have a code to get into the Uncharted 2 beta.

PROTOTYPE for the PS3 and X-Box comes out today. I ordered mine online so I won’t be getting it until Friday and wouldn’t be able to play until the weekend anyway. We’ll have to see if this matches or (as hard as that may be) surpasses Infamous.

I personally think Infamous was a work of art in how it is laid out…but nothing beats tearing up New York.

Heh, I actually bought infamous after the recommendations in this thread, after a day or so of playing an advert comes on the tv for what I thought was infamous, and I thought “oh cool…cole looks different” but it was an ad for prototype.

I think I may pick it up at the weekend, it’s funny how two games this specifically similar came out at pretty much the same time. Reminds me of when second sight and psi ops came out within a fortnight of each other.

I guess superheroes are “IN”. Infamous did a good job of really giving that feeling of just acquiring those abilities and learning how to use them. We’ll see if Prototype is on the same level.

Infamous takes up too much of my time though. I sit down to play it and all of a sudden an hour or two has gone by and I missed it.

I’ve been waiting for Prototype since it was first announced last year, I won’t have time this weekend anyway so I look forward to what you guys think.

I swear i thought infamous and prototype were the same game. My little brother is getting prototype when he gets outta school in a bit here and i have the rest of the week off from work so in between hanging out with friends and lifting im going to be busy playing the shit outta the game.

one of the only reason i still like living at home, a little brother that buys all the electronic shit so i don’t have to and can save money for more important shit like fixing my goddamn lemon of a car.

The other thread reached its max number of replies and wouldn’t let me respond…so I am starting this one focusing on Infamous.

I’m not a hardcore gamer. I play Spiderman video games just because I like to swing around New York and I could probably still play San Andreas for a few hours without doing any missions…but I do like this game and judging from the reviews it is getting, I am not alone.’

The premise is:

A bomb goes off. You wake up in the aftermath unaware of what the F happened trying to escape ground zero before shit falls on you and you die painfully. Passing an electrical generator causes you to absorb the electricity (something you couldn’t do before) and you start to notice physical changes.

The game involved finding out what happened, why you suddenly have powers…and it involves a Moral dilemma with most major choices that either make you more good and heroic…or more evil. Each path has a different set of powers and power ranges. You could effectively finish this game as a good guy and play it again just to be evil.

Unless you are some video game junky who plays games from start to finish over 40 hours straight, I doubt most will be finishing this in under a week or two unless they simply don’t have anything else to do.
Anyone ever see the cartoon “Static Shock” pretty much the same premise. radioactive gas chambers explode and now this black kid can manipulate electricity. It was a good cartoon.

That being said, all I care about is Diablo 3

Hey, this is the place for all things geeky, right? I haven’t read a good fantasy book in ages, anyone care to make recommendations? I like George Martin’s stuff, Raymond Feist(two with Pug as the main character as I recall). Last series I have been reading is Steven Eriksons’ The Malazan Book of the Fallen. I loved the first 2 or 3 books, but later on I kinda lost interest. Some post-apocalyptic stuff would be cool to read, also… like Stephen Kings’ The Stand.
Read the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, amazing books.

Also anything by David Gemmel is equally amazing.

If you like fantasy novels you will love those.

Sword of Truth, aka Sword of Porn. Try Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time.

Wheel of Times by Robert Jordan is one of the best series. Sword of Truth by Goodkind is another good one.

Damn I should have read the whole thread before replying…

Also check out the rest of the books Feist wrote. I actually really enjoyed them all.

However, Wheel of Time was by far the best series of books.

I recommend checking out The Strain by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It’s a non-romantic vampire tale, which unless you know where to look seems to be a rarity these days. Think CSI Meets Blade 2 on an epic scale and you have the gist of the book. It’s the first in a planned trilogy.

Probably have to check out Infamous and Prototype I’ve been getting bombarded with people lately telling me to play them. I recommend WWE Legends of Wrestlemania and UFC Undisputed for those looking for good fighting games.

Been buying comics again lately, trade paperbacks only…highly recommend the Hellboy Library Editions and the Walking Dead omnibus. Great stuff indeed…

So a new iPhone is coming out on the 19th.

The 8 GB iPhone will now be sold for $99, the 16 $149, and the new 32 at $299. Much more affordable. Not too many changes are being made however, the phone looks exactly the same, there is now video streaming, picture messages, a landscape keyboard, and a few other things including a faster processor. However if you have a second gen iPhone you will be able to download this new software for free anyways. I still prefer my blackberry bold, however I might pick one of these bad boys up.

As for games, COD Modern Warfare 2, supposed release date is Sept.

And most of all Diablo III I can’t fucking wait for this game. My friend heard it should be coming out in Nov. but knowing blizzard, it’s Nov. of next year…Still it looks absolutely awesome. NEver had more fun on a game than when I used to hit up D2.

Yeah, can you believe that I read US customers can upgrade to the new iPhone 3GS for free but they are charging customers in the UK ?£200 (Around $320) just to upgrade your phone. Unbelievable, since you can buy a new one for $200 without a contract.

Physically, the new phone is faster, has a 3.2MP camera + video recording, voice dailing and a compass. All the other features are software dependant so it’s not a worth while upgrade here just yet, though I suspect a first time purchaser of the new phone will be quite pleased with it.
