Gay Marriage Down in Flames!

There’s always a silver lining, my friends.

I have not posted in a long time, but I can’t resist gloating just a tad. As I stated to forlife in our very lengthy debate a while ago, most Americans are simply not in favor of Homosexual marriage. When the voters have a say in it they vote it down just about every time.

Nice to see traditional values still matter.
ZEB! Welcome back. Got any advice for a guy trying to get from 12 chins to 20?

Not so fast, sparky. As Rod Dreher pointed out:

I agree with Rod that it would have been in the best interest of gays to take a more gradual approach. I’ve always thought it should be positioned as civil unions rather than marriage, due to the latter being such an emotionally laden term.

Then again, I understand the urgency given that people are in relationships here and now, yet cannot visit their loved ones in the hospital, lack the security of survivor benefits, etc.

P.S.

How funny that the minority turnout feared by conservatives ended up favoring them on the gay issue:

If I had to choose though, I would rather have an Obama presidency over McCain. I think gay equality will come in time, but Obama represents a broader set of issues affecting the well being of our country, and he is a much better friend of gays than McCain.

I don’t doubt that barring some unforeseen cataclysm, same-sex marriage is going to be the law of the land in my lifetime. If you look at the actuarial tables and the demographic charts, it’s clear that younger voters accept it.

On my planet, California already has civil union laws that were carefully crafted to afford gays the same benefits as heterosexuals. The gays were simply not content with this and needed to push their militant agenda still further. Looks like they got their pee-pees slapped this time.

Barack Obama’s candidacy made this win by the Prop 8 folks possible. Black voters went for Prop 8 by a margin of 9 to 1. Hispanics split, and whites voted against it. Without such a huge black turnout, it probably wouldn’t have passed.

Interesting figment of your imagination. Conservatives never feared the “minority” turnout on this issue at all. The Mexicans and blacks saw gay “marriage” for what it is: a silly homosexual self-validation scheme. Perhaps the gay militants should spend more time guilting blacks and Mexicans about their homophobia next time around.

I would like to see his exit polling data because CNN’s exit polling data shows him to be quite mistaken.

Clearly, you know nothing of what it means to be conservative.

Conservatives are known for lower taxes, spending more, killing blacks, being staunch supporters of science, they love guns, and hate gays (despite being gay themselves). They also hate sex, love teh sweet buttsechs and are against killing the unborn but love killing the already born. They also love George W. Bush and Larry the Cable Guy.

In that case, you might want to come back to earth:

The most significant difference between marriage and civil unions (or domestic partnerships) is that only marriage offers federal benefits and protections.

According to the federal government’s General Accounting Office (GAO), more than 1,100 rights and protections are conferred to U.S. citizens upon marriage. Areas affected include Social Security benefits, veterans’ benefits, health insurance, Medicaid, hospital visitation, estate taxes, retirement savings, pensions, family leave, and immigration law.

Because same-sex marriages in Massachusetts and California, civil unions, and domestic partnerships are not federally recognized, any benefits available at the state or local level are subject to federal taxation. For example, a woman whose health insurance covers her female partner must pay federal taxes on the total employer cost for that insurance.

How many blacks have republicans killed? I’d like some real numbers on this since you threw it out there.

But the whites were wrong this time around? Like I said, it is funny that minorities are suddenly your friend.

Perhaps you should attack it at the federal level then. I hate to be the bee in your feather boa, but I don’t see how repeatedly attacking it at the state level is going to do anything but turn people against you.

Or it could be argued that they are fighting to keep the government from forcing its version of morality upon them. Especially with respect to Prop 8 in California.

Conservatives are known for lower taxes, spending more, killing niggers, being staunch supporters of science, they love guns, and hate gays (despite being gay themselves). Well, Black Greg, conservatives have a ways to go to catch up with the black on black murder rate.

I don’t attach morality to race. If the majority of whites voted against prop 8, then the majority of whites are morons. Big deal.

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve always thought it a copout to say that gay marriage should be left up to the states.

That said, there is something to be said for baby steps. It might be easier to build gradual acceptance at the state level (as is already happening in several states despite this recent setback), rather than take it directly to the federal level. I could be wrong though, maybe we will see it first at the federal level, beginning with the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

No problem, happy to oblige.

Studies show that over 100 years ago, republicans have killed well over 9000 blacks.

Conservatives aren’t gay just ruined your whole arguement. And they love sex with their spouse.

I happen to be a scientist by trade. Specifically in immunology.

But I would chose Reagan over Bush.

Don’t know if people would call me a conservative though.
I believe in lowering taxes, limiting government involvement and letting the people run the government.
Not taxing business to death, not increasing welfare, protecting our borders and our rights to fire arms. And people making it on the merits of there own abilities not others.

Really? How many of those murderers are still alive? And of the 9000 murders, you have proof that the killers were all conservative? I’d really like to see some proof that all the black people killed 100 years ago were killed by conservatives.

And how do you equate them with the conservatives of today?

You are a racist piece of shit. There is no place on this forum for racists.
