Garnett to Celtics

I’m pumped about Garnett. We have been bulding for the future for too long now. Finally we are going to get to see the C’s in playoffs.

Altough, we did give up alot to get him. Hopefully, we can fill the holes.

Red Sox got Eric Gagne today. Talk about a stacked bullpen. Might have to make Paplebon a starter next year.

He led the league in total rebounds, finished in the top five in shooting percentage and rebounds per game, and finished in the top ten in blocks.

What the heck does he have to do to be considered ‘good’ in your book?

Couldn’t agree more. I live in Orlando so I see him play all the time. He’s got some problems with turnovers because he’s got some butterfingers but his speed posting up against people is ridiculous. There was a highlight from last season shown quite a bit of him leaving Ben Wallace in the dust after he spun around him that was just sick.

He consistently has games where he shoots 8-11 7-10 etc. In fact in a recent USA exhibition he went 9-9 and 3-3 from the line in 22 min. If he would shoot more (or really dunk, which he led the league in also) then you’d see his points average way up and his rebounding is just going to improve with experience. He’s still a very young guy.

Deal is officially done.

Welcome to Boston, KG. He will wear #5.

I except a HUGE increase in season ticket sales, as well as a packed house every night at the TD Banknorth Garden (aka The Garden), at least for the next 2-3 seasons.

Ticket office phones must be ringing off the hook.

Kevin Garnett is walking through that door.

You’re absolutely right. I wasn’t aware that he led the league in rebounds.

I’m unsure however, what blocks has to do with the matter. Unless you’re talking about defensively, also… But then I would be confused as to why you left Ben Wallace off the list.

I was judging by your list… But you are right, Dwight Howard is a “good” post player. He reminds me of Shaq when he first came into the league. He can dunk, rebound and block.

I’m talking about the total package, the ability to score in the post, rebound the ball, AND defend the post. While Howard is raw, he provides positive contributions on both offense and defense AND he is a flat out dominant rebounder.

I left Ben Wallace off the list because (1) his only contribution on the offensive end is rebounding and setting screens and (2) his defensive game has slipped a TON over the last couple of years.

His defensive rebounding is barely adequate anymore, he is no longer quick enough to defend the pick & roll, and he is no longer has the athleticism to play man-to-man in the post versus bigger players. He is still a great ‘help’ defender off the ball and he still has great instincts, but he is no longer an elite defender.

Very valid points. However, I still think Ben Wallace qualifies as a good post player.

There’s a chance we might look back and wonder if trading Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes, and Al Jefferson as puppies was worth the 2-3 good-but-not-great seasons Boston’s going to get with the Pierce-Allen-KG group.

But a couple of days later, I’m changing my tune.

I don’t care if this is a total short-term solution! Boston has sucked so bad for so long, that I’m pumped that they’re finally going to be a contender!

College football players report for fall camp today, and this college football junkie is excited about the NBA. That’s a near-divine miracle!

You always take that risk when trading kids for veterans. What usually ends up happening is that none of the kids are as good as their hype.

Jefferson is basically a half-season wonderboy who was considered a huge disappointment entering the 2006/07 season, Green is a bundle of potential who has yet to produce, and Gomes is a decent player who will probably have to carve out a career as a useful spare part off the bench.

A bird in the hand (KG) is worth three in the bush (Jefferson, Green, Gomes).

For some reason this really bothers me mostly because anyone with this opinion of Jefferson has lost all basketball credibility in my mind. He was 21 entering the 06-07 season and had been a fairly productive player coming off the bench. And he isn’t a half season wonderboy, he is however one of the top post players in the league already at the age of 22.

I think that considering the T’Wolves were going to be stuck in the lottery with or without KG, getting Al Jefferson and the pupu platter was an acceptable deal. In two years Al Jefferson may be the best player that was in this deal and he’ll only be 24. This is smart trade for both teams involved.

This is my favorite KG (and my favorite overall) commercial of all time. This is when he was with And 1. Love it!!!

I think the move is good for Jefferson. He is still young, and I think a new start will be good for him. Whenever Jermaine O’Neal got traded to Indiana after spending his first few years in Portland, he really blossomed into a great player. Hopefully AJ can follow suit.

Also, KG will be a good mentor/tutor to Kendrick Perkins, who should start at center this year. And they have Ricky Davis, Delonte West, and Wally Szczerbiak coming off the bench, so the future looks good for Boston.

7 players for KG? That’s shows how much the C’s really wanted The Big Ticket.

whew for a minute I thought the celtics only had 3 players literally. Question is who is their point guard?

Don’t get me wrong. I like Jefferson’s game a lot.

I just don’t think he has PROVEN he can put up the kind of numbers he put up in the second half of the 2006/07 season on a consistent basis. NBA history is chock full of guys who had one great season (or half-season) and then fell back into the middle of the pack. I certainly believe that Jefferson has the potential to continue to put up those numbers, but he’s not a mortal lock to do so. He might have just had the best season of his career.

Do I think that is likely? Probably not given his age and experience level.

Is it possible? Absolutely.

Huh?

Ricky Davis was traded to Minnesota in 2005/06.

Delonte West & Wally Szczerbiak were traded to Seattle as the part of the Ray Allen deal.

The Celts current lineup looks something like this:

C: Kendrick Perkins
PF: Kevin Garnett
SF: Paul Pierce
SG: Ray Allen
PG: Rajon Rondo

Bench: G Tony Allen, F Brian Scalabrine, G Gabe Pruitt, C Michael Olowokandi, F Leon Powe

Rajon Rondo is slated to be the starting PG.

It was actually 5 players and 2 draft picks in the 2009 draft, so 5 now and 2 for later.

Oh yeah, forgot that Delonte and Wally were deal for Ray A, and that Ricky USED to be in Boston.

Totally my bad Steve. Good heads up on the correction.

It’s kind of funny to see Sebastian Telfair tossed around the league after the big ESPN special about his move to the NBA.
