Ah, well that sucks. You’ve got some spinal issues, right?
Yep, and hip. Lumbar vertebrae are unstable due to a birth defect and the hips were either fucked up from birth as well or ended up that way compensating for the spinal issues. Usually my chiro has to brace himself on the table to pull hard enough on my left leg to un-bury the head of my femur from my hip socket (and he’s a semi-pro bodybuilder and powerlifter).
Good golly. Yeah, I can see how unilateral stuff could get iffy, then.
Yep, gotta take it slow and use it to get better at life. Prove the scrotal fortitude with the big compounds ![]()
Also, weighed in at 198.8 this morning. Shit is moving the right direction!
Love the “choose the lesser of two evils” that perpetually characterizes American politics. I think people can make the biggest difference on the local level. Good on you!
Fixed it for you. But yes, not thrilled to have to choose evil at all. haha
I would agree, thank you! I’m not in the township where my family name is well-known, so I’m not sure if that will help me or hurt me. At least back home they’d know where I come from, but there’s some negative perception that probably wouldn’t help.
I don’t have any hope that it will ever change, sadly.
I think most people are pretty ignorant and that this might not sway people much either way, which could be good, bad, or neutral like you say.
Full disclosure: I’m struggling a touch this week. My wife has a director at work that she’s gotten to be friends with (and that I used to work with) and he’s in hospice for stomach cancer. Got a text Monday night that our neighbor whom we’re pretty close to is also in hospice for Merkel Cell carcinoma. Dude went from fine in November to a month or so left on earth. Not exactly a great start to 2021. I wallered in self pity for a bit yesterday and had some drinks to calm down (not a good strategy, but it helped). Pretty sure I’m good today, but the last few days haven’t been red-letter. We got news last night that our best friends finally have a little one on the way after trying for over a year, so that kinda turned the mood around for the better.
All of the above is to say that I took an emotional detour from responsibility yesterday and feel like my head might be on straight this morning.
Sometimes this is so necessary. Good call. Hope things look up for your little circle.
2021 is starting to feel like 2020 v2.0.
I prefer to think of it as free bonus months of 2020. Saves me having to write the whole year off.
Hope things are on the up soon. The weights will always be there; I wouldn’t fret over some time to emotionally recuperate.
Figured I should nut up and lift. 3 BBB sets down and 2 to go. My poor drumsticks are getting beat up.

Good morning - 135 lbs - 3 x 10
No SS
Banded triceps pressdowns - 2 x 25
Cardio - 8:00 Tabata rower
The last 2 BBB sets on press were a barn burner. Otherwise all was good. Low back is a bit sore from deadlifts yesterday but good mornings seemed to stabilize it. Cardio was good and I needed it. Definitely helped my mental state after this whaleshit week.
Our neighbor that’s been sick passed away this morning. Didn’t hit me until I saw his empty chair by his pool. Seeing someone everyday and chatting/sharing a beer is a privilege. To anybody reading this, take a minute to appreciate the people in your life that may not be main characters, but are the supporting cast. They’re more important than a lot of us understand.

Up and moving, woke up on my own at 3:55. Normal PWO routine.
Squat
45 x 5
175 x 5
210 x 5
245 x 3
280 x 5
315 x 5

Nordic ham curls - 3 x 10
DB curl - 25 lbs - 5 x 10
Incline DB bench - 55 lbs - 3 x 10
Cardio - Tabata battle ropes - 8 minutes
Good lift today. My back had been tender all weekend and was tender when I woke up, but on the 280 lb set of squats it seemed to click into place and is still good. Assistance was good, really enjoying the NHC’s (well, actually, they hurt like hell but I like their effects on my posterior chain and squat stability). Curls were good and so was IDBB. Cardio was necessary.
Ever considered your mattress as something that can aggravate your back pain?
I have considered it, but it’s been a constant in my life for 10 years and 3 mattresses ![]()

DB Row - 105 lbs - 3 x 15
Bulgarian split squat - 55 lbs - 3 x 10
No SS
DB “plate” raise - 35 lbs - 3 x 10
Cardio - shoveled snow
I had a hard time waking up and getting in the zone today. Got the work done but my joints were cranky and bar speed wasn’t perfect. I kinda expected it though, with the added stress and heavier weight. Rows and BSS felt good, raises were tough. I shoveled snow in a T-shirt and sweatpants for some minor league cold conditioning and it felt good.
I have a Performasleep mattress and adore it. I’ve relocated with it several times despite the transport inconvenience because it is one of my most prized possessions.
What time do you go to sleep out of curiosity? You’re seemingly always up quite early.
We dropped serious cash on this mattress we have and I’m super happy with it because it made a big positive difference in my back pain. Had no desire to spend that much (2k) but my wife talked me into it and I understand why it was a good idea now.
We’re in bed between 9-12 each night. I go to bed when I’m tired instead of trying to force the same bedtime every night. That’s how I manage my sleep anxiety and insomnia and for some reason works. I don’t get too fucked up unless I let my wake time slip. Up by 5 everyday and I’m golden. Can slip to 6-7 if I feel way behind, but anything beyond that and I turn into an anxious zombie wreck.
