Ahh, it seems like just yesterday I posted a little spoof article on here titled “The Gagne Outrage,” in which I vented a certain unhappiness at the Frenchified way in which Eric Gagne pronounced his name, versus Greg Gagne, a more, shall we say . . . American type.
My oh my, was I ever excoriated by some humor-challenged fellows, one of whom insisted that Monsieur Gagne’s “unhittable, electric stuff” would, given a few more years, make him into one of baseball’s most dominant players … ever! I was also ridiculed for my regard for Greg Gagne. No, he was no superstar, and I never made that claim on his behalf. However, he WAS a very solid defensive SS (.972 lifetime fielding percentage) and a real gamer, who played in the era before middle infielders juiced up so they could hit lots of homers, too.
I can’t help but feel vindicated, two years later, after watching Gone-yay’s pathetic meltdown with the BoSox this past post-season. I’m SURE he’ll be as much help to the Brewers next year as he was to the Rangers last year, too: 2 wins, 16 saves – now THAT’S worth $10 million, right?
look @ the market for closers this year…the deals are pretty damn rich which is why the brewers lost cordero in the first place…i’d be pretty happy being able to cherry pick a guy w/ gagne’s numbers for a 1 year deal. what’s wrong with that ?

Oh I hear you. But he was blowing games for the Sox like it was going out of style. I was not impressed.

yes i am sooo glad the brewers picked him up and we don’t have another foulksey situation on our hands.
Well, today’s Mitchell Report, along with Clemens, Petitte and Tejada, also includes Monsieur Gagne (pronounced Gone-Yeah, right, “FightingIrish26”?). I was admittedly having some fun two years ago with “Le Scandale du Gagne” – suddenly, it’s no spoof.
I guess this accounts for the “electric unhittable stuff” …
