Furo's Kettlebell Log

WEEK 11
DAY 7: Rest

Oops

WEEK 12
DAY 1: Chin-Ups/Pull

NEUTRAL GRIP PULL-UP
15kg BW: 3-3-3-3-3

CHIN-UP
BW: 4-4-4-4-4

KETTLEBELL ROW
28kg: 10-10-8-8-8

HAMMER CURL
20kg: 10-10-10-9-6

SIDE BENDS
10kg: 30-30

This was fine. Threw in some side bends because I’ve been doing a lot of driving and my lower back tightened up.

WEEK 12
DAY 2: Pistol/Leg Day

REVERSE LUNGE
40kg: 12-12

DOUBLE SWING
2x20kg: 6-6-6-6

PISTOL SQUAT (Box)
BW: 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2

SINGLE LEG HIP THRUST
BW: 25-25

Bodyweight: 96.2kg

This was good. It seems like it is this day that is making the most consistent improvements, which is great. I think my 20-rep pistol squat goal will be the next one I’ll get.

WEEK 12
DAY 3: Push Day

HANDSTAND PUSH-UP
BW: 5-3-1

INCLINE WEIGHTED PUSH-UP
30kg: 7-7-7-7-7

NARROW GRIP PUSH-UP
BW: 10-10-8-8-8

PUSH-UP
BW: 10-10-10-10-10

Bodyweight: 95.7kg

This felt quite good. I came very close to failure on the 3rd rep of the second set of handstand push-ups and that felt very dodgy! I’d say training is going well right now.

Quantifying the sum of the reps in this thread would require a pocket universe.

Not to mention the weight. So many pood.

So your doing hand stands against a wall? If so how close are your hand to the wall?

WEEK 12
DAY 4: Snatch/Shoulder Girdle Day

KETTLEBELL SNATCH/HIGH PULL/SWING COMPLEX
28kg: 3/3/3-3/3/3-3/3/3

BAND LATERAL RAISE
Band: 30-30-30-30

BAND FACE-PULL
Band: 20-20-20-20

BAND PULL-APART
Band: 30-30-30-30

I’m working on keeping the reps the same for the complex, but increasing the rep speed.

Lol. I’m accomplishing nothing compared to you guys, just doing my own weird thing haha. But I’m having fun.

Yep. About 6 inches. How do you do yours?

WEEK 12
DAY 5: Get-Up/Core Day

TURKISH GET-UP (Initial)
28kg: 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1

FRONT LEVER (Tucked)
BW: 5s-5s-5s-5s-5s-5s

SIDE BEND (No rest)
10kg: 30-20-20-10-10

Bodyweight: 95.8kg

I’m not sure that this day works particularly well. I think from now on I’m going to do front lever work first and focus on technique, like I do with handstand push-ups. I’ll also add in some high rep get-ups with a lighter kettlebell.

About 12 inches. Im kind of scared to get closer to the wall incase I fall. I will have more time over the summer to practice them once soccer finishes.

My gymnastic rings and paralettes have arrived so Im going to work on some gymnastic moves such as the front lever as well.

Yeah it does feel a bit dodgy lol. Ah awesome, I will follow your progress closely.

WEEK 12
DAY 6: Rest

Bodyweight: 96.5kg

I have been thinking about future goals and I think it would be really fun and rewarding to come up with a bucket-list of manly T-challenges to complete, with weight training as a background rather than a focus. I’d like a list of varied accomplishments that I could look back on, none particularly impressive on their own but reasonably impressive altogether. The kind of things any good Viking should be able to do.

As I’ve only just started thinking about this, I haven’t thought out any details. For physical challenges I think I’d like to:

  1. Enter (and win) an amateur submission grappling tournament
  2. Rock climb on a reasonably challenging face
  3. Some sort of open water swim

Please suggest other challenges to add to this list!

But I don?t know why I’m thinking so far ahead. First things first!

  4. Rob a bank.

  5. Bang a supermodel

WEEK 12
DAY 7: Rest…again

WEEK 13
DAY 1: Chin-Up/Pull Day

NEUTRAL GRIP PULL-UP
15kg BW: 3-3-3-3-3

CHIN-UP
BW: 4-4-4-4-4

KETTLEBELL ROW
28kg: 9-9-9-9-9

HAMMER CURL
20kg: 9-9-9-9-9

Bodyweight: 96.1kg

I’ve thought of a fourth Viking-goal: the 3 peaks challenge. It is when you climb the highest mountain in Scotland, England and Wales in one day. I’ve done Ben Nevis (Scotland’s and the UK’s highest peak) and it was ok, but all 3 would be a great challenge.

I want to think of one more goal, preferably one with a decent strength requirement because a lot of the others are more endurance based.

Great work Furo. I’m intently watching the progression in your handstand push-ups especially. In terms of a strength based Viking goal, why not do what the Vikings actually did and lift a set of lifting stones to prove your manliness (look on Wikipedia for “lifting stones”). Sounds like you should be able to locate some in the U.K. I have a few Viking goals of my own,

  1. Win a boxing match
  2. Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro
  3. Hunt for bear
When I was younger, I also had a dream of joining the French Foreign Legion. I read and watched everything I could get my hands on about them. Their history, their training etc. I wanted to push myself in a Spartan life like that where even your own commanders tell you that your life is expendable. The idea of disappearing into the Legion with a new identity (legio nostra patria, and all that) and raising hell around the world really appealed to me. However, I met my wife when I was 19 and that kind of put an end to that ( not complaining at all, my wife and kids are my life and we lead a very blessed life together). But, sometimes I wonder what it would have been like to do something reckless and crazy like that.

WEEK 13
DAY 2: Pistol/Leg Day

First off I decided to test my chin-up and pistol squat maxes to monitor progress.

CHIN-UP: 12 PISTOL SQUAT (Full): 7 (14 total)

I’m happy with the chin-ups as yesterday was my chin-up day, although I have managed 12 before. I think I could maybe squeeze out 14 at a push when fresh. The pistol squats were a PR ? my max prior to this was 5 on each leg. So it seems like progress is being made.

Then I did my standard leg session.

REVERSE LUNGE
40kg: 10-10

DOUBLE SWING
2x20kg: 6-6-6-6

PISTOL SQUAT (Box)
BW: 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2

SINGLE LEG HIP THRUST
BW: 30-30

Bodyweight: 95.7kg

This was fine, though my lower back felt a little dodgy from the pistol squats. I really need to find a way round that. Would a belt for pistol squats be ridiculous?

That’s so awesome! Your goals seem quite similar to mine, but definitely more hardcore. The lifting stones are a great idea and I’m actually from Scotland where they seem to have a few. I don’t know if they are available for the public to have a go on, but I’ll definitely check that out. Thanks!

Haha yeah I often wonder about things like the foreign legion or going off to work in some far flung region, and if I’ll regret not taking the opportunity to go off across the world. My dad actually worked several seasons in Antarctica, and I think that would be a pretty awesome thing to do. But then again, life is pretty comfy and that has it’s advantages.

I can’t imagine a harsher environment to live/work in than Antarctica. Your dad must have some pretty big “lifting stones” of his own (if you catch my drift).

Thanks so much for the inspiration CMDad: I’ve done a little research and decided to have the Inver Stone as my goal, which is a supposedly very awkward 121.6kg (268lb) stone in an area I know well. Hopefully my lower back will stand up to it.

Haha he must do! He’s got some pretty good stories.
