I for one have learnt a lot from the way you train. You train with goals in mind and do your best to stay injury free.
I think your doing the right thing and heading into the right direction… you just got to do what works for you.
Thanks for the good wishes guys, the first exam was ok. The practical will be the trickiest one though.
Upper Body Day
Ring Dip/Bar Chin-Up Superset
BW: 6/6-6/6-6/6
Band Face-Pull
Red Band: 15-15-15
Decided to repeat yesterdays workout because it was fun and I did so little volume.
I’ve had an idea about training for 2014: base my routine on a backbone of Simple and Sinister (which is meant to be done in conjunction with other activity), and leave plenty of room to experiment and flit between different methodologies. That will give me a combination of a consistent background routine as well as scratching my itch for experimentation. I don’t mean running it alongside a full other routine, but I could do one additional gym day for example.
I posted this in the BULKING competition thread in BSL but thought I should repost it here for reference/critique (I know my deadlift really breaks down, but it’s a 1rm so I reckon that’s acceptable).
These were filmed in 2012 but I’m 100% confident I could hit them all now.

Those shorts…
But dude, honestly you have a lot of potential to move some weight. To me, I feel like you could tighten and tweak your Bench form a bit and you’d have more weight on the bar, the Press looked easy as hell, and the DL you straigh-legged it most the way and still got it. So to me, you honestly are probably a TON stronger than those lifts indicate! haha
Hahaha my short choice is a running joke amongst my friends.

Thank you so much Spidey, that really means a tonne. I’ve never thought of it like that, that is really encouraging. Thanks again bud!
Haha thank you very much for the nice comments/exam wishes/innuendos. I had my last exam today, impossible to predict how it went but there is no point dwelling on it.
Training-wise I plan on starting this year with Dan John’s 10,000 swing routine. It fits my needs perfectly as I gained a lot of study blubber and lost strength. After that, I’m still undecided: I’ll probably do Simple and Sinister along with some additional work.
Exercises
20kg Swings: 500 Total
Bodyweight Ring Dips: 30 Total
Time: 40:56
Thoughts
This is the first time I’ve followed a set routine in years, definitely a mistake to stray for so long. This session felt the perfect amount of challenging - not impossible, but pretty difficult. I think I’m really going to have to cut the added weight for chins - the swings destroy my grip (in a good way).
In other news, I sold my weight vest and ordered a dip belt (which arrived today). It will be a lot better for weighted dips and chins and that’s all I used the weight vest for. I didn’t like how the weight vest restricted my breathing.
I had a bit more energy to burn and wanted to test out my new dip belt, so did a weighted dip pyramid. Felt good. This was 3 hours after I completed the above session.

Hey Furo - I am curious if you ever used your weighted vest for conditioning? I do trap bar carries and barbell carries both on flat and uphill. But I was thinking a weighted vest for hill climbs, long walking, adding kilos to my barbell carries and also possibly for my wife could be an effective conditioning tool. Any insight you have would be appreciated.
