At the risk of alienating those reading/being flamed to death lol, what are people’s thoughts on Zyzz?

I’m definitely not a fanboy, but there is something fascinating about him. I can’t work it out. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to look like him…except with bigger legs.

It’s a strange one.[/quote]
LOL. It is a touchy subject, but I also had admired his physique.

I think you would have to train differently to what you are know to look like him, and Im pretty sure its a known fact that he used PEDs. Heaps of youtube videos I believe, and Im pretty sure he trained for the pump and hypertrophy, while I see you train in a more “functional” way. I actually prefer your methodology of training as I find it more rewarding to train with “functional” goals in mind, compared to Zyzz’s method which is purely for the aesthetics.

Yeah I realise that he trained and “supplemented” completely differently from me. And I’m sure he ate a lot cleaner too lol. And yeah, I find it a lot more rewarding to train for performance goals, rather than purely for physique goals. So I’m not like him at all. But there is still something really intriguing about him lol.

Discussing the mindset and big fish/small pond thing, my coach sent me an article that kind of helped me get in the ‘correct’ mindset for lifting and setting goals, thought you’d appreciate it.

The thing about Zyzz, I think if you ever grew up skinny, kind of beta, guy who never got noticed by girls/just a friend, etc, his story kind of speaks to you. He saw the man he wanted to be, and became it. I think he gets unfair judgments on his douche personality by those who don’t see it was a parody of the Misc/DYEL online lifting community. Sad he passed away, feel like in his later years he would have maybe really matured and contributed a lot to the lifting community, but we will never know now.

Interesting article, thanks!

You make a very good point, I completely agree with you. Yeah I always thought of his haters as just misunderstanding him, if that makes sense. Tragic that he passed away so young - the same age I am now.

Week 21
Day 7:
Gym Day

Press
Long warm-up
60kg: 1
70kg: 1 - equal to my all time best
80kg: 1 (push-press)
50kg: 10-9-6
I love that I’m able to maintain my barbell PRs with just bodyweight/kettlebell training. Hopefully when I start putting more time and effort into my training I’ll actually improve them.

Dumbbell Row
40kg: 10-10-10

Face-Pulls
?: 20-20-20-20

Medicine Ball Throws
?: 15-15-15

Week 22 Counting like this really shows time passing by lol, not sure I like it.
Day 1: Pistol Squat

Pistol Squat
BW: 2-4-4-4-4-4-3
First set felt very difficult for some reason. Then I seemed to get in a good groove.

1.6 Mile Run
EDIT: I originally wrote that I did two 1.6 mile runs, but that was before I did them and I ended up walking back.

I’ve just found out that a guy from my course (a couple of years below - I don’t know him) was assaulted on his way home from a French evening class a month ago and is still in a coma with a 50/50 chance of survival. His attackers have been released on bail because they are minors, it makes me sick. Re-affirms for me how important it is to be able to handle yourself physically, even in this modern world where everyone relies so heavily on the police and other external services. Not that that would necessarily have helped him in this case, but I feel that life isn’t a safe as we can often be lulled into thinking it is. Really tragic stuff, I just hope he makes it through.

Week 22
Day 2:
Rest

Bodyweight: 98.2kg - I got fat

Week 22
Day 3:
Kettlebell Swing

Double Kettlebell Snatch
2x20kg: 10-15-10
These are absolutely brutal, like the kettlebell equivalent of high rep squats. Or maybe the kettlebell equivalent of high rep squats is high rep squats lol, but this is similar. If I get another kettlebell it will be another 28kg so I can go heavier on these.

Kettlebell Swing
28kg: 25-50-25

Al Kavadlo

I asked Al Kavadlo a question about pistol squats on youtube and he replied, I think this might be the highlight of my life. I’m feeling starstruck lol. He recommended trying shrimp squats, which I have mentioned earlier in this training log, but this has encouraged me to return to them.

Not that I’m good at pistol squats now, I just wanted to ask the question for future reference. I intend on being very good at them!

Al Kavadlo is sound as fuck.

Day 22
Day 4:
One-Arm Push-Up

One-Arm Push-Up
BW: 3-3-3-3-3-3

Yeah haha! What a guy.

Week 22
Day 5:
Chin-Up

Chin-Up
Reqular: 5
Uneven: 2-1-1
Regular: 9-9-8

Uneven chins are a real struggle and I’m nowhere near one-arm chins, but they are something I’d really like to master.

Yer, sounds like a cool dude.

I will be checking out more of his videos. Thanks for the link.

You just have to keep pushing it. Progress is progress and the curve on that move is steeper than it seems.

Yeah I imagine they’ll be very useful to you, with your style of training and goals. No worries!

Thanks spar4tee, I always appreciate your input. I was thinking of doing a block of specialisation when I have some more time - lots of weighted chins and one-arm lat pull-downs. What do you think?

Hope you are well.

Week 22
Day 6:
Rest

Unfortunately I’m just too busy today. I can’t wait for next semester, I really want to train all-out.

Yeah that sounds good. The hardest part of the one arm pull up is keeping your body from twisting and staying in position for the pull. I don’t really know what would address that issue directly besides maybe progressions for gymnastics moves likes planches, levers, and flagpoles. Couldn’t hurt.

Thanks man. I was also just thinking of trying band assisted one arm chins, I suppose that would still have the twisting issue so would be a good way to train it.
