Fuel Injection Problem?

I figured this is as good a place as any to ask a car question, since there are probably plenty of knowledgeable people on here.

Anyways, I’m having a problem with my engine that when I release the throttle, the engine will run really roughly for a few seconds and then start idling more normally, though there still seems to be less idle power than usual.

I just changed the alternator, so I know it doesn’t have anything to do with that. My best guess is that it’s either a spark plug or fuel injection issue. Perhaps one of my fuel injectors is sticking open when the throttle is released and flooding the engine briefly, or maybe one of the spark plugs isn’t working and the same thing is happening. Heck, what do you all think it is?

If this is the first time it’s happened, could be bad gasoline (water in gas), next fill up put in higher octane and see if the problem is fixed. If that doesn’t do it, get your O2 sensor checked.

x2.

Funny story: I came home from work one day a couple of months ago to eat lunch. When I went to leave, the car wouldn’t start. I tried everything I could think of --checked plugs, battery, changed fuel filter, checked the throttle body, drained the fucking gas and refilled it.

Anyway, right in the middle of this I decide "Fuck it, it’s time for a new vehicle anyway. so I buy a new truck.

Now by this time I’m thinking somewhere in the fuel line is a clog and I just don’t know where. I decide I don’t feel like dealing with it, so I’m just gonna sell it. Then, after resigning to selling the car for junk or parts or whatever, I happen to look in a kitchen drawer and find a key with a string on it that looks suspiciously similar to my car key.

Then I remembered that I had a new key made for the car a couple of years ago with a new computer chip thing-a-ma-bob.

Anyway, the long and short of it–there was nothing at all wrong with my car. I was trying to start it with the wrong key the whole damn time.

Thanks, guys. I think the O2 sensor is the best bet, after reading up on what it actually does.

may want to check you plugs first, it will be way cheeper. I know in my golf when my plugs get old it will do the same thing until running at operating temp.

A tuneup would be a good place to start. If the problem persist, I would clean out the IAC and the EGR.

Bad gas imo, tho it could be fouled plugs. Its unlikly your injectors are fouled unless your getting alot of blowby or some such. Sounds like your ECU is just retarding the timing to prevent knock.

Try adding some octane booster or methyl alcohol to your tank and make sure to fill up with better gas next time.
