From Coal Mine To Court Room

I heard a story today on the evening news that coal mining is booming. They are hiring many new inexperienced workers and reopening mines. Not sure if this accident was related to that fact or not.

I can’t believe so in this case. The sole survivor was the least experienced and I believe he had like 8 years experience. Most had between 10-20 years experience.

I doubt it was lack of experienced workers. Mining has been relatively consistent in this region for the past couple of hundred years. Similar to oil in Texas and Oklahoma. When one vien is mined out and a company shuts down or moves, a lot of people either move with it or change employers.
The survivor only had a few years experience, but the rest of the team had upward of 20 years. Also to recieve your mining certificate you must complete an apprenticeship program and extensive training.

There is even theory of a lightning strike at this point.

Although tragic, I would prefer this was just a simple accident without any fault due to negligence or anything else.

The letigous nature of the modern west is starting to become shocking. Whilt responsibility and blame should be aportioned (not in this case specifically, i dont know the ins and outs) it need not be monetary. The shame, dread and self loathing as well as the social stigma that must be attached to such a thing would haunt the person(s) to such an extent, that merely sueing someone is indicative of greed and oppotunism.[/quote]

The message these families are sending is that “money makes it better,” which completely devalues the tragedy they’ve already suffered in losing loved ones.

If I was a judge:

Fat people suing fast food places would receive… lifetime gym memberships.

Criminals suing their potential victims would receive… a kick in the ass out of court.

People suing for hot coffee burns would receive… a container of bleach. Hopefully they’d drink it.

And these families should get an apology. But wads of cash? I don’t think so.

Since the libs seem to think that evil begins and ends with President Bush, I was just stating their case for them.

Didn’t mean to ‘boarder’ on trolldom.
