Now heres the problem I have. Ill probably get a little flamage, but this is how I feel. Let me first say that OP you did a phenominal job turning your life around. I was really impressed. However, if you look at two random guys.
Guy A has been working his butt off in the gym for years. Guy A has a solid build. He has stuck to his diet, routine for as long as he’s been training. Lets say Guy A gets a 6/10.
Guy B has been eating fast food and drinking soda for 15+ years of his life. Hasn’t worked out at all for these 15 years. Then all of a sudden he realizes that something needs to happen. So for one solid year he does exactly what Guy A has been doing for 5 or 6 years. Guy B receives numerous compliments and “good jobs” for his transformation. Guy B receives a 7/10.
Just sayin.
I was kind of wondering why you brought this up and I realized you also had a rate my physique post. So you do look bad with this Guy A vs Guy B scenario. Also the assumption that Guy A should automatically be applauded for doing a diet and routine is not necessarily inspirational. There are literally millions of high school athletes, and hundreds of thousands of collegiate athletes that: stick to a diet, do a routine and challenge themselves each and every day. That is not inspirational nor motivational in itself.
Also that is a flawed statement and a personal bias/prejudice to state Guy B spent 15 years of his life doing nothing but working toward becoming fatter and fatter. Is that honestly what you think overweight people do or FFBs did prior to getting in shape?
It is those that can with their own power; addressing their own lives: cross roads, climb mountains, and crawl if need be - through their own personal impossibilities ( what they believe to be a dream first and foremost ), the edge of reason (the limit). Being able to push the boundaries of discipline, dedication, and heart is everyone’s own challenge. But not everyone’s Mt. Everest is exactly the same. The road taken, the path less traveled, that vibrantly gives depth, color, history, and leaves a indelible scar across the inner landscape. That be the journey.
Guy B has pushed himself past his normal limits and does not complain that he is not “rated” as good as other guys on T-Nation. He is honest, humble and admits he is only just beginning. That in itself is a powerful statement ~
Comparing guy A to guy B is apples and oranges. Different challenges, different dedications, different goals etc.
Not all fat people got fat because they didnt care what the looked like, say around all day and ate a bunch of shitty food and watched t.v.
For you to assume that is dumb, ill-informed and frankly makes you look like a small person. The guy has said he’s no 7. But what difference does it make to you if he’s a 10 or a 1. I mean if your not jealous it shouldnt matter right?
So admit one of two things…either
a. it doesnt bother you at all
b. you are severely jealous that this guy is rated higher than you or just high in general.
I went from 300 to 220 without the aid of surgery, so part of me wants to be a dick and call this guy lazy. On the other hand, his transformation wouldn’t have been possible unless he busted his ass. So from one FFB to another, good job dude!

Thanks but I did not have any type of surgery. I had stated I will end up needing surgery to remove excess skin down the road.

Which one is it?
No, Im not jealous. Im saying why is he getting rated higher if he let his health get so bad to begin with?
kinein wrote:
He’s not getting rated higher for that~

Yes he is. His transformation was a phenomenal achievement and deserves respect and praise. BUT, and we’ve been through this before, this is “Rate My Physique”, NOT “Rate My Progress/Transformation”. The rating system is supposed to be based on your current physique. Whatever condition you were in before should not be considered. A 1 is a skinny (or fat) non-trainer type with no muscle. A 10 is a pro level bodybuilder who is massive and ripped.
OP, I gave you a 4. Congratulations on your transformation. THAT deserves a 10+. See you in a few years, when I hope to give you a 10!
Senecan–Is it really that big of a deal to you?? People can rate what they choose and that is cool with me. Personally I know I am not a 7 and I am ok with that. It really took a lot for me just to post the picture just from a self esteem stand point.
You cant go from having a completly shitty self esteem where you feel you are worth nothing to someone who is much more confident in themselves in a year and still not have some apprehensions about things. You will not nor do I expect you to understand. There is more to it then just “letting my health get so bad”. When you are predisposed from early childhood to that type of eating and lifestyle you really dont know anything better. The important thing I am no longer a fat ass.
I come to this site to learn about things I can do to improve on that is why I posted. Not to say “hey look at me” because I know I am not much to look at…YET… I think you are reading way to much into all of this. If you want to contribute to the post how about some advice. What can I do to bulk up? You look like you have been working out for a while I am sure you have some good points you can share… If not then…
I’m just sayin…

Appreciate the feedback and you will see me in a few years at a 10!!! LIGHT WEIGHT BABY!!!
I guess way to be an ass to me. Obviously you didnt realize that I was defending you against what Senencan said. Dont tell me that I dont understand or that you can’t expect me too. If you check out my thread you’d realize I’ve lost 80lbs since april 2007 so actually I can and do understand. Way to misunderstand and dick off to me. Congratulations on your weight loss anyway.
You want some advice on bulking up…read “clean bulking by Dr. John Berardi” and read Chris Shugart’s stuff about bulking and being an ffb (former fat boy)
I also defended you that it wasn’t just “letting your health get so bad” I guess I’m bad with words, because you severely misinterpreted whose side I was on. Christ. This makes me royally mad. I do fucking understand where your coming from, I came from there too. Damn.

Alright I understand, sorry I overreacted, but us guys who have been similar places gotta stick together you know. Again, job well done. We all still have work to do.

Its hard to tell how much excess skin you have, but you can fill some of that in by eating 6 quality, healthy, good sized meals throughout the day.
Sorry if you posted this already, but whats your lifting routine like.
