I like it when you talk the nuts and bolts of your training. Today was my deads and back day. I like the idea of taking my weakness and just training it 3 or 4 times a week.
big legs ftw! sounds like we have a similar goal for that ![]()
i vary between following a program and being more spontaneous. virtues of the program is that it holds me more accountable with stuff i tend to bail on if left to my own devices (abs in particular). and sometimes i’d really rather not (increase the weight or do ALL the freaking sets) but if it is in my program and i make myself i can often do more than i thought i could. virtues of spontaneity include not getting bored and discovering new things. i reckon it is nice to have a balance between those.
will be interested to hear what you decide to do and how that goes for you.
MIM- you’re a closet beast! I’m sure you would obliterate my numbers if you gave it a try. I do however respect your goal and being so close I will be your fatty PL cheerleader, but I got to catch my breath first ![]()
PP - Training your weakness is good but you need to do it smartly. You do not want to max out on squats 4 times a week. But if your doing squats, front squats, unilateral leg work, abs, hammies and quads in a week then I would say your doing it right.
alex- yeah I def have the brotard shape - nice upper body and skinny long legs; a testament of my love for benching and my displeasure with squating.
Thanks for keeping my log hopping despite the fact I haven’t been in the gym for 2 weeks, 3 if you count the week prior to the competition. I’m planning on hitting my PL gym today for a solid 3 hours to make up for it. Plus not lifting has made me an anxious, angry and rather depressed person. I need to inflict a little pain on myself and let the endorphines flow.
Heh heh. I’m with you on the benching and squatting - except that my duff shoulder keeps me away from benching as much as I’d like. Thing with me is that every time I start on a campaign of squatting, I get an injury. If it’s not my lower back it’s my elbow or my fucking popliteus. I hate my body at times…
Have fun at the PL gym.

haha me too. in my case a testament of my love for power cleaning and power snatching and my displeasure with squatting.
though of course your upper body is doing better than mine :-/
Your log is always hopping =)
Can’t wait to see your 3 hours of work, that’s my kind of session <3
3 hours got cut down to 2. still I left the gym walking funny.
since I haven’t been to the gym in a while I was thinking bench - you know to get my groove on.
Coach: when’s the last time you squated?
Frenchie: umm it’s been a while.
Coach: then you squat.
damn. on the other hand it is what I pay her for. lol.
Squats
warm up: bar 1x12
105lbs 1x5
125lbs 1x5
140lbs 1x5
Frenchie: Coach what should I do for accesory work?
Coach: more squats.
Frenchie: grumble fine.
95lbs 1x10
75lbs 1x10
-went for 65 but my hip flexor was feeling ouchy so I stopped there.
stepups to high step (about the height of a bench)
4kg kettle bells 1x12
coach: too light. get the bigger ones.
grumble
8kg 4x8
alternating hamstring curls on swiss balls
4x12 - these bitches are tough, had to focus on really getting my ass up in the air.
There’s a lot of grumbling but need I say I have a nice little grin on my face, my legs are smashed and I haven’t felt this relaxed in a while. Vive le fer ![]()
I think I’d like your coach.

you would - she’s a little taskmaster with beautiful form. She can have a dozen people doing different workouts around her and everyone is pushing. gotta love it.
Your coach is awesome!
If I can get my hands on you on a squat day…
Hmm hamstring balls on swiss ball; feel the burn.
‘closet beast,’ I like that, thanks!
August looks like a good time I start to play catch up with the big girls. ![]()
killer sesh there…
Frenchie is back in the gym! Awesome job on legs today. I want your coach too.
lol1 love all the grumbling. your coach sounds awesome! Nice squattin’ sista ![]()
Squatting and more squatting. I definitely like your coach.
Keep up the good work and the thick legs that you desire will be yours for the flaunting!
Nice job, glad to hear that you’re back in the gym, Frenchie.
Always interesting to hear different coaching styles. Arachne commented at the meet that my coach and I do a lot of “bickering.” I believe that was her term.
At any rate, a good coach is just such a benefit.
And for the record, I’ve always thought you were a good squatter. Don’t know where you got it in your head that you weren’t.
I literally laughed aloud at you and your coach’s interactions. I’m a fan of her. It’s good to see you back in the gym and getting after it too. I think everyone here can identify with being in a foul mood when not getting workouts in. Glad that’s over! ![]()
Bless you for wanting thicker legs. ![]()
thats what i need in a coach, too. well done with your squats. i gotta do mine tomorrow
nervous about them already… sounds like you deserve to be happy 'bout your training.

“foul mood” is a gross understatement in my regard. My BP begins coming into play, especially since I don’t sleep when not training.
Main, I’m digging your work, and I think I’ll “borrow” the hamstring work for my next leg session.
- YouTube —you can do it put yor ass into it! ![]()
13 Swiss Ball Hamstring Curl - YouTube —is this what you do?? The one legged ones are also intriguing…
