Just a question…but why do some of you watch shit like this?
I mean, I am against censorship in most forms, but subjecting yourself to images that in large amounts over long periods of time could possibly cause someone to go insane can’t be good in the long run.
Could you imagine the damage of having a constant loop of things like this, beheadings, and loss of limbs shown to a 9 year old?
I only ask because these “look at this gross video!” threads come up a lot and the same people seem to flock to them.
Fair question. In this case though, I think watching something like this is just for the “how can this even happen”. From a medical standpoint, I’ve never thought I would see someone like that, let alone still alive.

I knew as soon as I saw the OP what the vid was about. I’d heard about it on another board.
I just don’t need to see shit like that (I unfortunately ended up seeing a gif of the split-face guy). I haven’t seen any of the beheading videos, the russian kids killing that guy with a screwdriver, Pain Olympics, or the guy getting boned by the horse.
I don’t think that stuff necessarily will eff you up, but I guess I don’t WANT to be desensitized to that sort of material. A few of my friends (including my nephew) said they were messed up after seeing the Berg beheading - although a common comment was that it was more because of the audio.
I don’t think I’m cut out for this interweb business.

I agree 100%. A lot of my friends will do incredibly stupid things like this, whether they’re drunk, bored, or just flat-out stupid. I warn them UP AND DOWN against potential hazards.
So people who do shit like this know of the potential hazards. I know the potential hazard of dropping hundreds of pounds on my throat when benching. I accept it.
Thus, no one ought feel bad for this guy. What did he really have to benefit by doing that, anyway?
So your ability to discern between good decisions and bad decisions removes your empathy for those who die tragically? Cool bro, have fun trying to lead a fulfilling life, you sad, egotistical fuck. Weren’t you posting some terribly flawed pro-abortion argument a while back…something like “I shouldn’t have to redirect the course of my life because I got a chick pregnant”? You know the risks of fucking when you don’t want a kid, even with a condom. Your logic is inconsistent and fails.
Human life is valuable, and the loss of life-especially for something as trivial as showing off to chicks-is tragic. Was it a stupid thing to do? Certainly. Did he know the risk? Most likely? Does that make it any less tragic? Definitely not.

No you’re here to showoff to off yourselves. Then we move in on the chicks.
Really seeing any of these videos really makes me think twice before I do something. I think of all (most) of the possible consequences that could arise when I’m about to do something. If I don’t feel good about it I just don’t do it. I’ve been a careful person most of my life.

How boring. I could die tonight on my bike and the world would keep spinning. I didn’t write that these images should be avoided for fear of similar occurring to you. I wrote that because surrounding yourself with negative images can only have one end result…you eventually allowing that negativity to affect you in some way even if you aren’t conscious of it.

This is inescapably true. Everything you ingest determines who you become.
Left field becomes you.
I believe that watching crap like this over and over (as seems to occur with the “youtube/jackass crowd”) would eventually seep over into how I think on all levels. It is reasons like this that I avoid many of the popular news stations lately as garbage, hype and falsehoods abound in an effort to create “news”…like Fox News’ attack on a school for singing a song that included a bit on Obama as they acted like this was Nazi propaganda…while leaving out that the event occurred BEFORE Obama was even president the previous February for Black History Month and that all of the parents received the words that would be sung to approve long before the event.
Maybe you don’t believe it, but your mind picks up on everything you experience and everything you experience becomes a part of who you are.
This is inescapably true. Everything you ingest determines who you become.
I don’t see this being true. It’s how you take that information and what you do with it.

What? You think you can experience something significant and it will have ZERO effect on you in the long run? In what event in life does this hold true? Rape? Murder? Beatings? You could watch all of this passively and you believe it will have ZERO effect on how you think?
The ONLY way that could be true is if you were desensitized to it from viewing it over and over…which in and of itself means you have altered how you think.

i agree with Jahova. Two different women could each take an equally brutal raping. One recover to a degree that she could function in society and in relationships to a degree that you would never know unless she confided it to you. The other one might not handle it at all and lead the life of a scared hermit there after. Obviously most women would fall somewhere between these two extremes.

On a side note, I was the first one on the scene of a car wreck in the middle of Nowhere, MT a few years ago. Guy was ejected from the vehicle and had his entire face sliced off when I found him beside the highway in the grass. Yes, his eyeballs, nose, lips, forehead,…everything was gone. Completely gone. Had a broken arm and leg too. He was lying about 40 yards from the car.
I held him in my arms to keep him warm while we waited the hour and a half for the ambulance. He was conscious the entire time.
His girlfriend was hanging suspended upside down in her seat belt in the overturned car. Got her out. His face was in such gruesome shape I wouldn’t let her see him.
I helped strap him on the board when the chopper came and got him. Because he had no forehead we could hardly get the forehead strap to stay in place.
To the best of my knowledge he lived.
That’s just brutal, Push. I bet that hour & a half felt like a hundred years.
What in the world did you come up with for words of encouragement? What the hell did his girlfriend say? “Ok, I understand I shouldn’t look, I’ll go sit over here.” Holy hell, what a situation.

That is really the conclusion you arrived at? I have known way too many women who have been raped before and to most people it would never be apparent that they were. That doesn’t mean they weren’t very damaged by it and it usually manifested itself in the bedroom or when it came to any significant emotional relationship…neither of which have much say in how successful someone is.
You are basically saying that because some people cope better than others that this means they weren’t mentally effected?

Well, they are both right I guess. Taking your example with the raped women, both are affected by the experience, just not in the same way. Thus, it has been a deciding factor in determining who they are.
