For or Against Section 8

Does anyone advocate section 8 housing or do you think it should be cut off? Why or why not?

I believe Section 8 should be stopped. In MOST cases, all it does is bring trash into good neighborhoods, which causes problems. Don’t take that the wrong way, I don’t think I’m better than anyone. However, a family of drug addicts/dealers who trash the property and cause problems are not something that I want in my area. Also, just because you can’t support yourself doesn’t mean that taxpayers should have to pay your rent so that you can live in a better area. There are already way too many social/entitlement programs currently, and we can’t afford them. Programs like these do nothing but subsidize being “poor” (no one in the US is really poor, and if you are that’s your fault- there are many helping hands out there). Any half wit knows that when you subsidize something, you get more of it.

x2, I’d make an exception for students. There should be a certain number of years allowed on it and random drug testing added.

I say no, but if we do I’d put so many regulations on it that the program wouldn’t work.

No.

Life Liberty and Property.

Those are the three rights all have. Free housing provided by the government is not a right.

Nor is health care provided by the government.

Wurd.

I was homeless once and I never took anything from the governement to get back on my feet. All it took was a commercial drivers license and a good work ethic.

I’ve never understood this type of thinking.Im better than mass people and so are you.

We are all born equal but that equality stops at birth. Some people just suck, and I am better than those people.

I read a story in England that said a woman that was a nigerian immigrant was given a 2.6 million dollar home (in british dollars) and is given a $90,000 a year housing allowance (again in british money) to meet the cost of living there.

I was watching to see what other responses came in on this thread. In alot of cases section 8 is taken advantage of and used to live on for life (just keep pumping out kids and the check goes up!).

I do have some personal experience though; both of my step-sisters had to go the section 8 route after my Dad and Step-mom decided enough was enough and cut them off.

The good point is that they both took advantage of the education offering, learned a career skill, got jobs and got off of the aid. They also didn’t use any drugs (decided to be a parent and grow the fuck up).

But unfortunately there are far too few instances like this.
