Thanks. I like your food too - I don’t do much sweet stuff, but one of your posts has me thinking about some kind of maple churro dessert idea.
You’re right - good eye! Other than color I didn’t think they added anything unique beyond traditional Chanterelles.
They put out a lot of moisture during cooking, so I’d wouldn’t do them in a mix again.
My 79yo mom and 16 yo autistic son are both carb whores. Neither of them will venture too far outside the box when it comes to food. No need waste a bunch of ingredients on things they won’t eat and end up in the trash. So, I keep it pretty simple.
I’ve thought about using them in some soups or gravy for the color.
Such a great mix you have there though. I have to wait about another month for the maitake. If we keep getting rain like we have the fall shrooms are going to explode!
It’s you for the comfort porn, @Brant_Drake for the wow factor porn. I love your food pics, CL.
What about @SkyzykS
A lot of people post appealing a/o interesting dishes, but for me CL and BD are standouts.
Matter of personal taste, of course,
Thank you!
Oh, I’m pretty sure I’m not even in the same ballpark, especially with Brant. I wouldn’t even include me with them. Their preparation and presentation is beautiful.
Mines like “Meh” on those yucky pea green plates (which I do really hate) or Dixie’s.
Yes, but the actual food at least sounds and usually looks delicious
Of all the possible call-outs on TNation, I’m laughing to think that I’m called out for not including all of the food porn posters, or some of them, or…I’m not even sure. Raw truth, @anna_5588? I believe I’m as good a cook as most of the people posting here. I might think “mmm!” but that’s a different thing from being wowed. @SkyzykS posts food I find lovely, and I often “like” his posts, but I’m neither awed (BD) nor wishing I could vacation at his house for a week (CL).
That’s all. No insult to anyone intended, just compliments to people I admire.
It wasn’t meant as a call out. I guess @SkyzykS 's food does for me what @ChickenLittle 's does for me
I believe I’m a better cook than many of the posters here. Doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the food and pics, I always love a well done steak or chops or whatever, but they are not porn to me. CL cooks stuff I won’t, Drake stuff I can’t.
That’s all. You could maybe phrase it as “@SkyzykS is one of my favorite posters in this thread” rather than pushing me into an awkward corner.
Yeah. I have quite a few “Honey! You want to just order a pizza instead?” under my belt, and some very good reasons that the neighbors dog likes to hang out on my porch. ![]()
I completely admire the rolls you’ve been making, and in fact they fall into the @ChickenLittle category for me of things that “OMFG THAT LOOKS GOOD, but if I made it I’d eat every last one in a single sitting.”
Which is why I rarely bake. And why CL is a porn of choice for me. Also, I lived in Texas for 15+ years, and miss only the food and the people. A lot of what CL posts is nostalgic for me, or difficult to replicate here.
I hope I haven’t insulted you - you’re the last person I’d want to insult. You’re a standout when it comes to mushrooms, but I’m not into them beyond mundane uses like pizza and salad.
I was really happy about the broccoli you had with the pork chops!
That is waaay harder to do than it may seem. No offense taken. At all.
Shrooms are funny. Well, they can be…
It’s typically a very hot/cold response. Especially when they’re picked vs. store bought.
Also, I’m making it a point to include more broccoli. Shooting for 3x per week.
My cheese sauce skills are eh… 6/10 though.
And now, after having been completely lacking in grace as well as noxiously hubristic, let me post food. Veggies:
I often realize how yummy things look (to me, milage varies) after I’ve cut it all up to take to the TV, which I do if my husband is out of town. Then I don’t post pics because it looks like a 5-year-old’s plate, lol.
Shrimp stir-fry, rice sold separately! I must have lost interest in photos by the time it was plated.
Edit: I’m a little confused by the angle on that one. I’d have to be standing on the counter, which seems unlikely.
I think I’m like the people who call some fish “too fishy” but eat others. I prefer mushrooms that are not “too mushroomy” and I can only tolerate so much broth from them.
I believe broccoli can stand without cheese sauce, which for people with CAD should come only occasionally.
Beautiful!
They were probably both taken as part of my EAT MORE VEGGIES campaign for poor @SkyzykS.
The stir-fry was a couple of months ago, the steak in the spring.
