Following Politics, Following the Money

Not that I feel the need to defend myself from Clowny McClownerson, but for anyone interested the college I went to is one of less than 1% of schools that are AACSB accredited in accounting.

But, hey, I’m sure they give all 13-year-olds graduate degrees.

Yes, that’s a perfect example. “Big Business” is a concept. It doesn’t exist. It fundamentally can’t be DOING anything. I would welcome you to name a large scale company that is anywhere near monopoly level conditions on it’s industry.

Only if the things that were said/wrote were accurate. What did you read and/or listen to? AM radio stations, blogs, and YT videos?

Lol, no kidding. “Brah, but like it’s big and like monopolies and stuff”.

It’s funny, I was thinking Facebook would be a good answer. Did a quick Google search.

Don’t see “Big Pharm” and there aren’t any Monopolies listed. Google is the closest in the “search engine” industry. Lolz as usual.

That is your own misunderstanding. Those profits are also any citizen in the US that has ones personal investment dividends, retirement accounts, kids college funds, etc.

I guarantee you wouldn’t be so butt hurt about profits if you had any type of investments.

Profit: "After calculating the company’s gross revenue, all operating costs are subtracted to arrive at the company’s operating profit, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA). If the company’s only overhead was a monthly employee expense of $5,000, its operating profit would be $3,000, or ($8,000 - $5,000). Once a company derives its operating profit, it then assesses all non-operating expenses, such as interest, depreciation, amortization and taxes.

Monopoly: “the exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service.”

Using these definitions, please explain the difference to me.

People own corporations. You were almost right. It’s the only way a middle class pleb like me can get in on the action of Shell/Apple/Google etc… If you’re interested in a get rich for sure method (rather than get rich quick) I’d like to suggest you read ‘A Random Walk Down Wallstreet’. It describes how anyone using dollar cost averaging and index funds can get very wealthy over time buying equities in corporations.

A) There isn’t a distinction bexatthebwprds refer to 2 separate concepts entirely, and

B) Even if we accepted that nonsense term no industry you have currently named in an argument iss a monopoly or anything close to it.

No it isn’t but that doesn’t excuse monopolies from doing what they do.

And when Medicare-For-All passes I’ll still talk to you, but I may say see I told you so.

And you’re blind.

Let’s see, who keeps marijuana illegal? Is it a) Big Pharm or b) lawmakers. Hmmm, tough one

Yes, government is guilty. But who gives them campaign contributions to do their bidding? Funny, huh? When you assign blame to the ones who are the catalyst of corruption.

God, you are brainwashed or incredibly stupid.

Denies this even exists-Fucking ridiculous!

Owned by corporations- Fucking ridiculous.

So this is the school you received your degree in indoctrination.

Maybe they are technically oligopolies. But the healthcare industry comes to mind.

I agree. Try Noam Chompsky and Edward S. Herman’s Manufacturing Consent. Changed my whole view on things.

This does not address the underlying theme of the question of monopoly profits.

Since Pharma lobbied against the legalization of medicinal cannabis. Why was this done?

So getting in on the action, makes it right?

So is there a difference or not in those profits?

I know you’re trolling. But you have dodged mine and Aragon’s legitimate questions. What has been asked of you:

  1. Define Monopoly profits.
  2. Differentiate them from non-monopoly profits.
  3. Show us an example of a monopoly operating right now.

Please name a company or 2 you believe to be a monopoly or oligopoly.

When an industry tries to use it’s influence to keep competition out in order to quell competition and keep their market protected.

The healthcare industry is an example of this. Trying to keep better treatments from coming to the market in order to divert money to them. The consequence is that the public has to suffer.

Laughable as this question has been raised by me prior without ANY viable answer. Why did Big Pharma lobby against medicinal cannabis?

The healthcare industry acts with monopolistic intentions. Why did they actively lobby against the legalization of medicinal cannabis? I have raised this question before and the only answer I got was from usmccd423 saying he didn’t care as he doesn’t cry over yesterday’s spilled milk. How weak that, that is the best he could do. It just goes to show how bankrupt that side is.
