It’s amazing how one asshole can ruin everything.
Removing the verification and renewal process? It’d be inherent. The only reason those processes exist is because it’s not single payer.
Not to sound like a dick, but let em die. One of the major reasons illegals risk dying to come here is to work. Another is the healthcare aspect with ERs. “if you build it. They will come.”
To requiring an ID specifically, instant plot bandaid. Govt issues some form of number/ID/etc as part of single payer
Why would requiring things like anti venom (state specific etc) need a full on single payer system. I’d imagine states currently already pay for state specific things out of their budgets.
Imo a pre requisite to single payer is going to be majority buy in from both parties. Otherwise we’re just back to Republicans sabotaging Ocare with a new name.
Then I sincerely hope you remember that sentiment the next time you step into a voting booth. If only more people did lol
A government by and for the oligarchs. And how proud they must be for selling that garbage and helping to destroy the health of the public. How honorable.
If stupid people weren’t allowed on this forum.
For stuff like paying for a nursing home, for example? You would just approve everyone that applied?
The politicians that would pass single-payer would not be the politicians that would allow the above to happen lawfully.
Again, see above. We can’t get voter ID cards. I doubt we’ll get healthcare cards.
They would need some system for administrative purposes. Who is going to monitor supply and how will it be paid for?
I’m sure they do and I guess they could just adjust what they do for non-fed single-payer issues.
Agreed, which is why I joke this must be for Neverland. I don’t see majority buy-in on healthcare. I see a dem controlled Congress and Presidency with enough votes to get it through. That’s about it.
I’m not a Republican…
What would you do with all your free time?
In before “Mark of the beast, don’t get a SS number!”
Verification and renewal aren’t application (I may need to clarify verification. Annual income and job checks happen with Medicaid/SNAP/etc)
Then we’d be back to our current standing irt illegals and insurance. 100% of illegals have the ability to game the system currently (I still say there’d be a smarter man’s way to combat that, I’m just not that smart)
Where are govt issued voter ID cards being suggested and swatted down? Not that bullshit disenfranchise poor and old people stuff, but actual “give a card to everyone when they turn 18 and register to vote from a federal process” agendas.
I would assume however it’s being administered and paid for now. I don’t have the answer to that though
I think in 10-15 years when rising health cost scaling has outpaced inflation for long enough (like it has been for years) there will be enough public outcry on both sides.
At the end of the day, UHC most benefits poor(er) people. And that’s a hella lot of votes
I didn’t say you were :P. But I assume wherever you vote allows republicans on the ballot, yes?
Lol, ya, but they also allow Dems on the ballot and they do the same thing.
To the ACLU, nationwide issuance of voting ID cards when none were required before is an attempt to disenfranchise voters. Take that away, and they fold. People would obviously have to register for their UHC. It’s not like the concept of having an “insurance number” is going anywhere in this country. We’re still going to have to be able to analyze the cost/expenses on a state/county level.
Take away the part where it’s capable of being used as a tool to disenfranchise people, and the ACLU loses it’s bite. Even if they don’t, fuck em. The DAY single payer has majority GOP approval, it’s all over. ACLU eats ID cards to get single payer. Every day all day. But that’s never been the line.
Yeah but at least the Dems let you have pot.
My 2¢
True–but remember the political spectrum in the IS is significantly shifted right compared to Continental or UK standards, so compared to the US spectrum it is significantly left even under Tories. Different political normal IMO.
I think the sentiment being expressed is opposition to a relative decrease in choices, not “zero choice”. I think this also has more to do with treatment options rather than location/practitioner.
100% agreed. And yes, the politicians are completely untrusted by me personally.
Well we do have a lot of education on the topic in a general sense, but the impact of that is anybodys guess. I would surmise cultural differences.
I would classify myself as independent, middle ground conservative according to the US definition, most certainly not a “real” libertarian or a neocon. Republicans can rot, they’ve screwed up every chance they had.
Interesting thought. Then again, since government is made up of politicians I am not sure it makes a difference…
Cheers for your answers. I agree, our centre right is probably left of yours, but there are elements who are a fair bit further right such as mogg and Johnson. They are pretty transparent in that they come from money and they are out to protect themselves. They like to whip up fear and outage such as the fish throwing silliness a few weeks ago. Farage joins them in most ways but party name.
My 2p, USA could probably do with a third party and we could do with an alternative voting system.
Accidently clicked your bio trying to reply, as an ex physics undergrad, rock climbing instructor and amateur whisky drinker we probably share more similarities than differences. Interesting to see USMC political view as well, think we all get tired of politicians, I don’t even know who to vote for at the moment. We have a good government website called ‘they work for you’, shows all the legislative voting history of the politicians.
Btw I won’t vote Tory because of ‘managed decline’. I know it’s historic but that ruined a city for a long time.
But you most likely vote for them.
The government is run for the benefit of the ultra-wealthy and corporations. The public can just go fuck itself. So the inefficiencies are the cause of the government pandering to those 2 groups.
Agreed.
Voted for Johnson.
Annnnnd another swing and a miss. SHOCKER…

Lord Clown of House Derpington, that won’t change if single-payer is adopted here. One of your uncountable mind numbingly stupid positions.

I quite agree! Anybody who likes science, climbing, and whiskey is good company in my book. I think the conversations would be interesting on all fronts.
I also agree with your sentiment re: 3rd party and alternative voting system.
While history is always complex, “managed decline” is rotten–I don’t blame you in the slightest.
So does that make you a libertarian?
