Florida Lawmaker Warns Common Core Will Turn Children 'Homosexual'

If you want to read about Common Core, Wiki Ninja:

Quotes by people like this aren’t even newsworthy.

For those who are concerned about retaining local control over public schools, the common core initiative arguably has cause for further consideration, notwithstanding other legitimate concerns pertaining to rigor as it relates to grade level of students, standardized testing, etc. These fringe right-wing social conservatives are targeting the wrong enemy. In my opinion, the bigger debate over common core ought to be its implementation, application and relevance, not fear about some sort of socially progressive, humanist agenda that will be forced onto kids against their will.

I don’t see anything dumb with this, except probably the arbitrary %.

The point seems to be that we cannot ever be certain that our course of action, however justified or well thought-out it may seem, is the correct one or will even play out the way we wish it to.

I would be very happy if people actually lived with this kind of belief.

I think the media goes out of their way to bring forth stupid things Republicans say and gloss over the dumb things Democrats say. Otherwise, imbeciles like Pelosi and Reid would have had their lips stapled shut by the Dem party apparatchik.

Yeah, that is definitely a legitimate factor.
While the gaffs may be out there, I haven’t seen such nonsense, or something equivocally stupid said by democrats with respect to some sort of policy that they’re backing, or as a rallying cry to attract voters. Again, like you said probably influenced by the MSLM.

Some good examples, but are these issues or statements they’re using to attract voters? That’s what I’ve been trying to get at.

[quote]JR249 wrote:

None of those were examples of someone in office or running for office, using those comments as a platform to attract voters.
The Franken comment was back in 1995 when he was a writer for tv or something.
The rest were nutty protestors or the public.

What you say at campaign events is what you’re running on, or what’s important to you.
So this guy, Van Zant, the reason I should vote for him is so that my kid doesn’t get taught to be gay based on the contents of the common core curriculum. This is his plan to get people to vote for him.
Like, are you fucking nuts?!?

Do you include Fox within the “media” you refer to here?

Okay, well I am sure I can Google and find some, but you’ll find something wrong with those too, so I guess Democratic politicians never do the same thing - got it.

Quit being immature. You posted a bunch of incidences of lunatics, not politicians doing and saying stupid/dangerous shit, and one incidence of that Franken asshole talking about rape when he wasn’t a politician.
So yeah, you’ll have to do better. Suck it up.

Great examples Brett, I remember that island tipping one, real facepalm.
I don’t know if this isn’t relevant or not, or maybe people here are glossing over it, but the stupid shit I hear from politicians, that are Republicans, often has to do with their political platform that they’re running on.
I’m not saying this is something exclusive to Republicans, but it’s they’re party that I most often hear the most moronic statements from, while they’re running for office and trying to get votes.

Is this difference not relevant?

I don’t watch tv news often so I have no anecdotal evidence but I’ll bet they have portrayed Tea Party candidates in a bad light, especially if they are running against an establishment Republican. And they probably have put the spotlight on a few dumb Dems too. But you were probably thinking since there is one tv news channel that doesn’t bow to the left all criticism of the media that does is unfair and invalid.

I’m not necessarily saying that I agree with him but consider this: a prepubescent boy doesn’t know anything about sex. He’s not interested in girls and he only wants to hang out with other boys. If someone then starts telling him about homosexuality and suggests that it’s admirable and normal and so on - it may possibly have some effect on him…just saying.
