Worth mentioning that my understanding is that he never intended to burn the flag in the first place. He intended to call people together with the threat of doing so and then give a speech in which he defended the right to do so but did not himself burn the flag. That’s per the school’s newspaper, which apparently got a shot of the speech that he was about to give before being shouted down and whatnot.
Maybe he will think twice if he wants to burn another flag.
Is he allowed to? Sure.
But just because you can doesn’t mean that you should.
I just realized that if I hoisted the Austrian flag upside down to indicate that my country was in distress, noone would notice.

How about you make your point clear by posting the flag first, Franze.
Most people don’t know the flags of minor, insignificant countries like Austria.
Well, most most ignorant people take the 30 seconds it takes to google “Austrian flag” before they make snide remarks that reveal that they compound their ignorance with stupidity and lazyness.
Are you guys socialists now? Since when did you guys care what people did with there own property.
( I am joking )
Flag burning is a form of protest and I’m glad it’s allowed.
That being said, the people who shouted them down or whatever had the same right. Bring more people to tango next time if you wanna burn flags.

Two come up. The old one with the Habsburg eagle should be flown upside down with the French, Belgian, British, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, South African, Indian, Russian and American flags stuck up its arse twice.

So I guess you liked the one that replaced it better then?

You just took the bloody eagle off, waited two decades, exchanged it for a Swastika and then went back to the eagleless flag again. I don’t give a crap. You can put a pair of gonads on it for all I care. Just don’t start any more trouble or we’ll turn Vienna into a fucking pile of rubble and divide the remains up with the Russians again.

lol at these douchebag kids not even letting a kid protest, the kid burning the flag has every right to do what he did, and what I like to think that separates U.S. from other countries/people is our tolerance to allow people to do what that kid wanted to do. But I guess not, fuck that school and fuck those kids.
At the end of the day what to ME makes America great is the ability to burn your own countries flag, demean the military, critique the government.

They have a right to protest him. They did. End of story.

Sounds like a logical conclusion to draw from such an act to me…?
No kidding.
“I prefer a man who will burn the flag and then wrap himself in the Constitution to a man who will burn the Constitution and then wrap himself in the flag.”
Craig Washington
That is a great quote. It is also far and away the most patriotic thing that has been said or quoted yet in this thread.
Yes, burning your own country’s flag. So patriotic.
‘On New Year’s Day 2008, Washington shot at a car containing two teenagers’
‘The Internal Revenue Service has also sued Washington, alleging that he owes $610,000 in unpaid taxes’
- This Craig Washington? Who gives a flying turd what Craig Washington prefers?
Ad hominem attacks come when substantive criticism cannot be made, either because the original argument was too good or because the interlocutor is too stupid. In this case I suspect both.
Idiots like you claim to be patriots and then shit on the best things about this country. Few things are more un-American than the stifling of free speech.
Those aren’t ad hominem attacks.

It sounds like he was making a valid point, but burning the flag just seemed an inflammatory (no pun) gesture designed to wind people up. He has the right to say what he thinks and we have the right to respond or not listen
EDIT: I didn’t see it was at a war memorial. That’s just stupid
Actually he doesn’t have a right to say what he thinks.

Tolerance is gay. And what you think makes America great is not true, because I’m pretty sure there is laws against defacing the flag.
