Fish Oil and Shell Fish Allergies?

Simple enough. Can Fish oil aggravate someone’s shellfish allergies? I have gotten a couple of my buddies going to the gym with me and one is allergic to sell fish and I have been telling them to at least take a multi-vitamin and fish oil. When he told me that he had allergies I said naturally “well ask your Dr.” but I should have known better. He doesnt have one (as most ppl our age in college) so I told him I would make some inquiries and see what I could find out. I checked on the bottle that I have and there is no warnings and it doesnt say any thing about it. Me personally I would assume that it would be ok but I dont want to kill one of my best friends so let me know what you think

Use flax oil.

This sounds silly, but it seems to work: Put a pin hole in the end of a fish oil cap and squeeze enough onto a band aid to soad the pad. Put the band aid on your arm. See shat happens over the next day or two. Granted, it is not a full lab test, but it can help give you a lead.

I have a deadly shellfish allergy, and fish oil doesn’t bother me in the least. That said, go with phillipj’s suggestion to make sure your friend isn’t intolerant to it; not all allergies are created equal.

One of the girls that I office with has shellfish allergies, and cannot do fishoil at all. That girl is allergic to everything, though. Everything but alcohol.
