I’m just saying in my “hood” no one throws around the “first black” thing…even if they are. Like, my high school had a “first black” valedictorian while I was there…it made the black kids uncomfortable…none of the black kids mentioned it none of the students mentioned race but it was all over the news as “FIRST BLACK”

Have you ever heard of a thing called seperate but equal that ended in 1954? Racism was legal, and enforced by the state at the highest levels. Blacks were legal second class citizens. They had less access to elementary and secondary education. Less access to employment. Were your grandparents alive in 1954? Did your grandparents have an effect on the way you were raised? If not directly at least indirectly through your parents?
The federal government intentionally ran interstate highways through the black part of town to protect white property values. What were already ghettoes due to lack of oppurtunity became worse. There continue to be black ghettoes to this day as a direct result of jim crow laws, racist federal government policies and a racist general public well into the last century.
