Anyone have any useful tips for cutting down a few pounds for my meet, without losing strength? I know it’s suggested to not worry about weight class before your first meet, but I’m 200-205 and don’t think it’s unreasonable to lift at 198 since my meet isn’t until April 6th.
I ended up buying a singlet and it should be in sometime next week hopefully. I ended up just getting a plain black/white adidas one. Looks pretty sweet/old school. Hopefully I won’t get pinned by a squat in it.
nice work on the bench man, you should be putting up some solid numbers for your meet.

Thanks man! 300 is my goal for the meet, so it’s nice to hit it in the gym before I’m on the platform. I’m still about a month and half out and I’m already excited.
Squats 5,3,1
325x5
370x3
415x2 PR I think I could’ve hit this for 3-4, the reps felt really good. Best squat day in a while. I had a spotter for the first time in a while, so I think that gave me a little confidence.
Leg press up to 700#
Leg Ext/Curls
Curls
Cardio… Went to the beach and ate like crap this weekend. Need to burn off a few pounds.

Youre so close you can do it with water weight only imo. Just keep an eye on your weight for the next few weeks, dont do anything different right now

Thanks! That’s what I was thinking. I ballooned up a little this weekend, eating bad foods, but back on track now. I figured I would sprinkle in a little cardio/conditioning a few times a week as long as it doesn’t interfere with recovery. I may do a water cut in a week or so to see how it effects me.
Should’ve backed down the assistance intensity, due to heavy squat day. My low back is sore and tight already. I’ve been stretching a good bit and doubled up on fish oil. No damage done, just need to be careful with the meet coming up in a bit.
Forgot I finally uploaded that video from my 3x3 week 390x3, but doesn’t look to cool now that I hit 415x2. I think a couple of them may be a touch high. Have to skip through the first little bit, had to be my own camera man.
I have no clue why it’s in fast motion. It’s not like that on my computer, so I just suck at uploading. Forgive my noob mistake.
Press 5/3/1
165x5
185x3
205x3 Felt pretty good. I’ve hit 205x4 before but this was the most I’ve pressed since a few months ago when I feel and hurt my wrists. Looking forward to a PR next cycle.
Chins up to 70 lbs
Dips up to 135 lbs
Seated Rows
Tricep Push Downs
Light Conditioning: Didn’t have a ton of energy today after all day in class and cutting down on the carbs again.
what kind of diet are you following man?

Nothing too specific. I probably should, but don’t want to focus on all the detail. I just try to eat only carbs from vegetables or fruits (no breads, pasta, etc.) and get plenty of protein and good fats. I’ve only recently started decreasing my carb intake for some body composition. I like the results so far, just don’t have as much energy some days.
look into carb backloading, similar to what you are doing now, but with carb re-feeds after workouts. I have been doing it for a few months now, great results.
Thanks man! I’ll definitely check it out. What kind of body comp results did you have? Any changes in weight or strength?

decrease of 1.5" off my waist, lost 1% BF while maintaining weight and increasing strength every week.

That sounds like good results to me! I’ve started looking at some articles and I’ll probably give it a go soon. I saw a while back on your log you were just focusing on powerlifting and no longer strong man. Why the change of heart?
After looking at some upcomming contests, I am nowhere near strong enough to compete on any real level right now. So I figure I would give myself a year on 531, get my lifts to a point where I am squating 400 for reps deadlifting 500 for reps and overhead well over 225. So for now focus on a better strength base while toying around with some of the events in my training, and compete in a few powerlifting meets along the way until next spring to compete in strongman.

Is that a strict press? Because if so then holy shit!
And also don’t worry about the fast motion vid. It’s the website’s fault not yours. It happens to everyone on here and there’s really nothing you can do about it.

Yeah strongman is a lot different than powerlifting. If you can’t lift what they have, you can’t compete. Not much ability to change the weight. Those numbers would be awesome to hit! Hopefully I’m not too far off from some of them. I’ve done one small strongman event and it was a ton of fun. I still like to use strongman events in my conditioning.
