Do you know what your BF is? I am just curious for reference.
Same question - recent Dexa or BF measurement?
I donāt have access to those in my current situation. Iām just taking a very uneducated guess that Iām in the 20-30% range. I could do the neck/waist measurement we use in the navy. Using that method you measure your neck, waist, height, and current weight. Iām 6ā5, 260, 17.5 neck, and 39 inch waist. According to the navy calculator that puts me at 18.3 but I believe Iām higher.
I am not sure about the adverb very, but I would agree with uneducated. I doubt you are over 20%.
Pics are hard to tell, and why it is more important to know your goals. I would guess yours are strength and not really concerned with BF.
You carry some fluff, but it is clear you also carry significant musculature as well.
Doubt you are over 20%.
Just my ignorant opinion.
Right now Iād just like to get to 15ish or below and be healthy for my kids when I get home from this deployment. In a couple years maybe see how far I can push myself and get on a small stage for a local show or something. Like the OP.
Iāve never deca scanned, but Iām going to guess Iām between 15-18%.
BF is kind of bullshit - like BMI. Your BMI is almost 31, way over the recommended 25. Youāre are clinically considered obese, which is, of course, a joke.
I think the 18.3 is probably close to be honest with you.
You see the fitness dudes with abs but no legs and think that is ten percent, but itās not true. Itās hard to maintain 15% in my experience. Lowest I ever got was 14% and I have better abs now at 17%, so itās all about goals.
I like to keep a mental record though.
Iām 6ā1" (or used to be) and 194 - technically overweight. According to BMI I would be considered normal weight at 149.
No way!
You mean you used Deca but not Dexa, lol.
@Andrewgen_Receptors , what is your height and weight?
Real sorry for slow responses guys. Usually only on here during work hours between tasks as I hate doing forums on my phone.
Anyway, some more info:
I use Inbody at 5 Star Nutrition.
I know that there is a margin of error (as opposed to Dexa, which I donāt have access to).
My understanding is the margin of error can be anywhere from 3 - 6% to account for items like bone density, deep fat (around organs and such), etc.
I try and be as CONSISTENT as possible, which is key from what career fitness professionals have told me.
So, I make sure itās the same routine every time I go in (every week or two). Three to four cups of water in the am with my shake, my standard breakfast, and I weigh in at 10 to 11am like clock work every time I go (before workout). These scans ARE NOT FASTED as such.
The last scan I did is attached (last Saturday). I can only attach one image per post, so I will add some follow-up pics in the next two responses so all the info is there.
I know we can only use this as a TOOL, it is not gospel.
As to posing:
I do so casually at home, but I have met with a local NPC competitor once (who has won 1st in numerous events). We have worked on quarter turns, and we meet again next weekend to review and begin mandatories. Then we will meet every 3 weeks until the show date to clean stuff up.
I do not have any recent posing images, but will get some this weekend to share as I will be practicing Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Probably just quarter turns until I work on the mandatories with my posing coach next week though. Just rather have him tweak before I start sharing everywhere tbh. Iām pretty confident in quarters (minus front relaxed, as I find it harder posture wise with hips and getting LATs flared (working on it).
My coach and I will begin working on my routine in week 10, a couple hours a week to nail it down (until we have it together).
Also including an updated pic post fast this am, coming in at 187.4 lbs.
Hey man, thanks for posting the metrics. That is awesome progress.
No booshit, get a shave and a tan and that will take five percent off your bodyfat.
Next shave is next weekend actually. Did one start of prep. Tan Iāma hold on, just causeā Iām Portuguese (2nd gen) and have a pretty good natural tan. LOL!
Iāll def get updated pics post shave too. My wife hates it cause Iām āpricklyā apparently. Haha! So, Iāll just be more selective with the grooming process this go. But, yeah, itās crazy how much hair can change a physique in pics.
Appreciate you my brother. Thanks for the encouragement!
Iām in for this; congrats on doing your first prep bro! Getting lean even just once in your life makes an enormous difference IMHO. I think youāll definitely be setting yourself up well for the next few decades.
Give us some mandatories!
Definitely planning on posting poses over coming weeks. Prob Quarter Turns this weekend, and Mandatories next weekend after my next session with my posing coach.
This being a staple Bodybuilding forum, Iād like my first pics I post to actually look prepped and halfway decent Lol! Not casuals from my basement with shit lighting.
This.
It comes back quick later in life.
Nah, there are a few here, but it is not really a BB forum.
Gotcha.
Yeah, my coach sees me physically often in person at gym, as we go to the same one and try and work out together as our schedules allow. So, we donāt do a ton of back and forth pics tbh.
We will be on the day to day as we get closer, handful of weeks out. But, right now we just update as necessary and change things up according to how body is responding to training, macros, cardio, scans, etc. The goal is getting lean right now.
Posing is definitely going to be hyper focused in last 10 weeks, as opposed to just casual at home.
@Sindrik8x
If you want some insight into a show prep(and a bit of reboud) this is my log from last year.
Started prep in january at 212lbs and went on stage at 164lbs in april.
By no means was this perfect but a learned a lot. Will be competing again next year.
Iām 100% definitely going to dial into this and dissect it man. Iām looking at coming in pretty middle of the pack at literally Middleweight:
165.25 ā 176 lbs (74.95-79.83 kg)
Think itās the perfect fit for my first show. Not with the bigger guys, not with the small cats.
In any sense man, appreciate you sharing your journey bro!
