It is the parents job to teach the kids how to eat. So what if the fast food companies are in the schools. Kids don’t have money til they start to work in their teenage years, so just don’t give them any money to spend on that crap, pack them a healthy lunch and tell them life is tough so they better get used to it. That’ll at least give you 12 or 13 years to teach them to eat properly. At least if they’re healthy that long they’ve got a head start to healthy living over the rest of the population.
Perhaps I should have been more specific. I wasn’t suggesting suing the school district for monetary damages, I was suggesting suing for an injunction to cease and desist serving crap.
McDonalds can market to whom ever they wish. I don’t see a problem with them marketing to kids. Hell, they could market the McLard Chocolate pie to kids, I still don’t have a problem with it. Parents should make the decision for there childern concering there eating habits. If the parent don’t have this sort of control, it makes you wonder who is raising who…Mcdonald’s is my son’s favorite restaurant, he goes maybe once a month.
I do agree with you that the schools should “cease and desist” selling crap like that in the schools. I was amazed when I first saw Coke machines in my daughter’s middle school. Whatever happened to cold water, along with the milk and other more healthy beverages served at lunch? We, as taxpayers funding our public schools, do have a say in that, but therein lies the problem. Most parents don’t have a problem with a McDonalds in their kids’ school. So suffice it to say that I stick with my original comment that everyone has a choice as to what they shove down their throat, and that the McDonalds suit was a frivolous attempt to extort money from a large corporation, but I don’t feel McDonalds should be muscling their way into our schools.
Since we are worried about our children, do what people did to the cigarette companies. Sue them so they can’t have ad’s on TV anymore and get rid of Ronald McDonald. I always hated the clown with that smile painted on his face and that smug look of,“Oh your gonna eat my burgers oh!” If any of you have seen So I Married an Axe Murderer you will know what I am talking about.
Thank God for common sense.
That decision was a breath of fresh air. It’s ridiculous how the majority of people are unwilling to take responsibility for their own actions. Pretty soon we’ll see spoiled kids suing parents for their conception.
Matt Levy, I’m glad there are common sense lawyers in the system. I am encouraged by your attitudes. Doc T., as usual I agree with your point of view.
Now for my summation. People who file these lawsuits should be humilated. Can you imagine going on T.V. and blaming others for your weight? What a load of shit. Have some pride. I wouldn’t accept a dime of that settlement. Imagine facing your family members.
It all comes down to responsibility. NO ONE FORCES YOU TO GO TO MCDONALDS!!! IT IS YOUR FAULT IF YOU EAT FAT FOODS!!! Everyone knows that that food is fattening and leads to atherosclerosis. I want to do a quick poll. If you have posted previously in favor of suing McDonalds, please re-post and indicate the candidate for President you voted for in the 2000 elections. I have a hypothesis I want to test.
hey guys mcdonalds does have a lighter choices menu in canada at least and it includes a whole wheat bbq grilled chicken
Matt,
I agree with you. The screwed up lawsuits are the reason why I work with and for incompetent idiots who should've been fired without reference and without severance a long time ago just because they're female and/or minority and/or old and/or disabled and/or homosexual and/or whatever they deem discriminatable (is it even a word?)
BTW - in case anyone thinks I'm a bigot white male...my name should let you know that I'm a female, and I'm also minority. I just hate dumb people not doing their job, and me having to carry their fat weight on top of what I need to do.
