Well, I just converted Fina into Crystal Fina, or Tren, using the Methyl Alcohol technique, have injected it, and remarkably, have lived to tell about it. A few points:
-
This method, the instructions which are readily found on the web, yields a clean product. Unfortunately for me, the yield was only 55% - that’s because like a dumbass I spilled the shit on my counter. After I had strained the methyl cellulose out, I had the good concoction in a jar, ready for the distilled water. Then I spilled the jar. Dumbass. I was able to salvage some, as the methyl alcohol started drying and I scraped my counter with a razor blade.
-
Next, I found a cat hair in my bottle when I had the final product! I then extracted the product, ran it through a Whatman filter (Are Whatman’s necessary when going the crystal Fina route?), and the damned hair ended up in the other bottle!! It must have stayed in the needle after extraction, not going back into the tube so it could be filtered by the Whatman.

I baked at 250 degrees for a little under 30 minutes. This turned it a darker brown color. I then let it sit out for about five minutes, then put it in the fridge. When it was about room temp erature (I didn’t let it get cold), I pulled it out and there was some rust-colored “gooklets” floating around. These weren’t there when I pulled it from the oven. The crystal must have coalesced from cooling down too quickly (?). Anyway, they are small - and they will fit through a 22 guage needle, so I can suck them up and inject them. Yum! Oh - the cat hair dissapeared. It was tiny anyway.
Final note, I decreased the BA and increased the BB.
Comments are appreciated - especially reference the rust-colored “gook-lets” and the Whatman filter. ALso, for anyone who has done this, how long did you let the fina tablets soak in the methyl alcohol? The tablets dissolve pretty quickly, but I may not have waited long enough.
