Female, 24, I'm at That Point in My Life

I use myfitnesspal.com, although I’ve never tried any others in full disclosure. I find it does exactly what I want it to.

Free bonus tip: plan your food the day before, don’t log it at the end of the day.

I used to use Fitday, but switched to MyFitnessPal because it’s much easier to use.

What site do you guys use for figuring calories/protein/carbs/fat in ya food? Or do you just take the labels off of actual food. Some obviously don’t come with that info…like an apple or something like that.

My big thing to work on: calculating how much I am eating! And of what.

Also, need to try new recipes. My curry chicken one has run its course.[/quote]

Grab a food scale, weigh everything for a week. Should get you good on knowing portions of things your eating…

Have you tried chilli or the like?

I will definitely buy a food scale. Going to try and really push myself for May. I put in my two weeks at one of my jobs. (My most consistently paying job unfortunately) But that leaves my personal fitness goals to become top priority for the month.

Right now it’s just the most feasible to eat a Quest bar for breakfast.

No! But I will! Because I love chilli! I’ll look up some paleo-ish chili recipes right now actually!

That’s one of my go-to’s when I have no imagination for slow cooker food.

Hey guys! Took a mini vacation and learned that the phrase “Fail to plan and plan to fail” is so true it’s amazing. When I don’t have anything made, I immediately eat out. To be fair, my eating out now is a much prettier picture than it used to be. I order salads and pretty much anything with lean meat and veggies. Anyways, I’ve been back to it hard this week and here’s what I’m eating now, everyday.

Meal 1: Quest bar, apple
Meal 2: Jerky and pistachios
Meal 3: Ground chicken (or ground turkey), brown rice, broccoli (hot sauce!!)
Meal 4: Post workout protein drink
Meal 5: Chicken, mashed sweet potatoes, asparagus
Some days I’ll have a 6th meal which is usually an egg white omelette with peppers, or eggs and bacon, or a babybel cheese

On May 4th I was back up to 167lbs. Which is still less than the 180 I was last summer! May 24th is right around the corner and I’m being very strict with my diet and exercise and letting everyone I know that I’m not fucking around anymore. I get a lot of crap for how I eat. And I’m not drinking anymore and I get crap for that too. However, tonight is my last night at Big 5 and that’s where the bulk of the shit I’m getting is coming from. They do comment on how well I eat, but a lot of the time I’m getting “What is that?!” As if they have never seen a fucking sweet potato before. The eating habits of my coworkers almost disgusts me. I’ve managed to inspire ONE person to eat healthier just by denying all of the crap they eat 24/7. Sorry, had to vent. Glad I’m leaving this place. It’s just a black hole of negativity and they act like they can’t do anything better with their lives. It’s a choice.

Thanks for the vent session!

Its good to vent. The farther down the nutritional Rabbit Hole that you go, the more disgusted you will become with the american eating habits.

Good to see a post from you, are you going to do a clothed birthday photo to use for motivation to keep you going through this next year ?

Always here to help those that will listen, question and keep the quest going . . .

I get this all the time, usually as “Would you like some sugary shit caked in lard? Oh, I forgot, you eat that healthy stuff don’t you”, usually with a disgusted look. Action offends the inactive, remember this.

I work in an area that would be called “benefits street” in Britain, and the most frustrating and saddening pat of it is the lack of pride shown by the majority of people, both in themselves and in the community they live in. I try to use this as inspiration to not be like them.

Venting is good, talking to like minded people is better. I’ve heard many times that you’re the sum of the 3 people you spend the most time with. My thoughts are that a little time on T-Nation does a bit to undo some of this damage.

Dagill: you pretty much nailed why we now how #FitShaming ! Because most people have no Love, Take no Pride, nor ownership of their own bodies. So they want to bully others who actually do have a love of training and love of their bodies. Luckily we are stronger then they are.

As to your point about the three people. Actually it is the 5 people that you spend the most time with that have the largest influence on you. For me that would have been Meb Keflezighi (2009 NYC marathon and 2014 Boston Marathon winner) as his training partner for 5 years. My PT buddy who has an Alphabets worth of letters after his name and then a solid family system. After that it would be the writings of Simmons, Tate, Wendler, the russians and others for whom STrength, Conditioning and Nutrition are of paramount importance…

So going forward Ducky, keep up the good works. Dont let the great amount of mediocrity surrounding you drag you down…

One of my favourite Wendler quotes is “Good things rarely happen when you expect less of yourself”. I see the proof of this every day and I like to take it as a challenge not to fall into the same trap. Its certainly a trap I’ve fallen into before.

I am extremely jealous. I spend a lot of energy trying to avoid the people I spend time with affecting my outlook and attitude to life.

The three people I spend the most time with: My girlfriend, my dog, Netflix. Haha.

Sometimes I have really great self discipline and other times I just want to party lol. It’s graduation season and I am trying to make the best choices during this season of alcohol, more alcohol, snack foods everywhereeeeee, and goings out to dinner to celebrate! It’s also my brothers bday today, my birthday next week, and then camping for my birthday which translates to: Let’s go get drunk in the mountains for three days.

Instead of drinking every time I went out and celebrated this week, I designated one day to be my drinking day (yesterday) which worked out because I was DD the other nights and was able to get people home safely. Felt nice asking bartenders for a glass of ice water.

Tip I have learned: It really helps when DD to sip on water, that way you still have something to occupy your hands and you don’t get sucked into the trap of “I’ll just drink one beer.” My experience with this is if I drink one beer, I’m drinking 10 along with shots and then smoking cigarettes!

I think living a healthy lifestyle in our society is definitely a challenge which is just sad. Especially in your 20’s when EVERYONE is going out to drink. But not impossible so just dealing with the weekly ups and downs of trying to lose weight. I feel rushed but in truth, I am so much healthier now than I was two months ago and as long as I maintain and keep pushing I’m very happy with where I am.

Still eating same things as above. Will post my workout routine later. Not a fan of circuit workouts SOLELY because I work out at 24 and it’s just impossible. Not once have I ben able to do a circuit in a busy gym like this. I’m lucky to get one machine. 10 at once is just laughable.

Good job Ducky.
First girlfriend was killed by a Drunk Driver so I have zero tolorance for that behavior.
Good job getting the friends home safely, and not falling into the social trap.

Dont get too complacent yet, we are not done with you yet !

Takes a minimum of 66 days to START to get a habit going.

Sometimes you just have to wrap your head around what you are capable of.
Sometimes thats a month, or a week, hell right now with Nursing School it is one day at a time for me.
Sometimes just getting through a single goddam Hour !

Anyway…Keep up the good work !

Last year I had a rule for myself that I added one new “habit” to my life every month. Something simple, like a food diary, or flossing everyday.

dagil2, what I meant was not that it takes 66 days to start a new habit, so much as that is how long it takes the brain and body to fully Integrate the new habit into the daily regiment. Sorry for the confusion.

If you can find a new habit to add once a month in a positive direction, that is a pretty cool thing.

I totally got that, I just wanted to avoid the whole “did I do one this month” thing, and every month worked ok for me.

Well I turned 25 and can’t say I was in the best shape of my life. But I’m in better shape than I have been and just getting better. Keeping up with the routine eating healthy and working out when I can. Not perfect which to me just means I know where to improve. I think the way I am running things I will slowly get to where I want to be.

Trying to get back into running. Idk why I just sometimes enjoy the thoughts during running and kind of going into another world.
