I’ve had a fear of heights ever since I was a little kid. Get me near the edge of a precipice (and I’m not tied in) and my knees buckle and I just want to hug the earth. The funny thing is, fear never even entered my mind when I was doing Australian rappels (that’s face down arms outspread) out the tail of a CH-43 from over a 100 feet up.
I love to fly, especially the turbo prop commuter planes. When it hits turbulence, I pretend the plane is falling out of the sky. I like to think it convinces me of my own mortality. Sometimes I let out an involuntary “yee-hah”. The other passengers look at me like I have two heads. The last time I flew into White Plains, NY I pretended it was D-Day WWII and the turbulence was ack-ack.

How do you manage to get everyone to hate you?

Real easy. Have confidence and don’t fear anyone else.
Hate comes from Fear
Fear comes from Jealousy or change
Jealousy and change come from insecurities and short comings
Insecurities come from yourself and your own life experiences.
Confident secure people would never respond to my threads. Only those who feel threatened by what I have said respond.

How are jealousy and fear interchangable?

I don’t know about you but my cummings are never short…You act as though you have no insecurities…Everyone has their demons…also, why do you have to bring up that you are confident and shit all the time, are you trying to convince us or yourself, it’s as though you’re trying to have the persona you want “online” but don’t have in real life…because lets face it, you’re bad at it even online. Confident people don’t piss people off by merely being confident. Confident people are mouthy fuckin idiots either, or write slews of fuckin posts pertinent to fuck all.

You dazzle me with your logic.

This response will do just fine. He just exercised my illustration.
You know the only reason you responded to me is because of your insecurities…besides you just don’t like me because i’m confident and can do more body-weight-weighted exercises than you…You illustrate your own shit, except you can’t colour inside the lines. Leave my paintbrush alone.

Now this is a response to you. You’ve intriged me enough to pay you a compliment for your superior intellectual being. I am bowing down and handing in my keys. Merlin has arose from the depths of the almighty and sent you here to cure me from my disease. Thank you, I have seen the light and will focus on my inferiority complex from now on.
The other was a response to my own post.
I just present the material. It’s up to the viewing audience whether or not they want to respond or not. I felt like responding to you by saying that everone loves you and you will be a success in your life. Congratulations.
And I will admit I am insecure about colouring outside the lines, I never could get that right:)P
Call this fuckin’ shit what it really is…When you see someone labeled as PTSD, say to them “Oh, did you sacrafice your life to protect your country. Meanwhile, you got your best friends guts blown all over your uniform when you were there.”
He’ll say, " Yeah I lost both my fuckin’ legs, my balls are gone, and I can’t hear see a fuckin’ thing. All I got for my efforts when I came home was 4 FUCKIN’LETTTERS that explain my condition.

You could at least credit George Carlin since you’re using his material.

This is dead on my experience as well. Sometimes I’ll see stuff on TV - like the movie vertical limit, that makes me queasy. I went to the top of the Empire State Building, and it was everything I could do to move away from the building towards the edge. The damn building was MOVING. But I’ll fly in anything - helicopter, hot air balloon, you name it.
First, there’s a difference from acting a prick and being confident. The difference is evident.
Second, I have a fear of falling. Fell out of a corn crib when 5 yo. about 20 feet. Didn’t break anything, but scared the bejesus out of me! Went up the Sears Tower later that year, and talk about sway! To this day, I hate flying (even the thought makes my stomach queasey) but I’ve never had a problem thinking about jumping out of a plane. Surfing 2’-6’ faces is a blast, but anything over 6’ is fuckin’ scary! Dropping in with many tons of water right behind you, waiting to crush you and keep you under water 'till you meet Davey Jones… I have to say though, the adrenaline is addictive and I’d do stuff to scare the crap outta me! What’s with that?

I dont surf. But I do boogie board, and surf kayak.
I think this feeling is that you feel an 7, 8, or 9 foot wave (or anything bigger, for that matter) will drown you. It wont, unless you hit your head and get knocked unconcious or something. It may be a feeling like “well I better not fuck up, or I’m dead.”
I think you answered your own question: adrenaline is addictive, therefore you keep going back for more. Nothing wrong with that.

I once read a wonderful rationale for the fear of heights:
The limbic system (our lizard brains) “remembers” all the things we used to be through evolution: slugs, birds, reptiles, monkeys, etc.
It doesn’t know we lost our wings millions and millions of years ago.
Te “fear of heights” is really cognitive dissonance between your neo-cortex saying “Hold on to something, dummy!” and your limbic system saying, “What are we waiting for? Let’s flap our wings and go!”
True? Maybe, maybe not. Probably not. But, more poetic than most reasons I’ve heard.[/quote]
Of course it is true. Everyone knows we evolved from flying monkeys.
You fear heights because God says you should and is punishing you for having improper thoughts…
makes as much sense as anything else.
And on a serious now, DB, I have the same sensation at times. Have no real problems with heights, but the urge to jump, its there. And yes I am being punished for my impure thoughts.
Please. Show a little class and pick a different sign-off. To some of us, those words are sacred. Too many good people have died giving them meaning. Combat ain’t no video game son.

Another fuck up in language manipulation.
Here is one more.
The term “shell shock” has been renamed so many times. By manipulating the language so it comes off less than it really is.

1st-
Son? Better be careful who you’re talkin’ too. I probably outrank you and I’m no longer in the service.

Yeah - exactly how many licks DOES it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?
