Favre Gets A 'Pass' Because He's White

I know what the OP wants for Christmas.

What would you say if Steve Nash and Kevin Love duked it out to the death? Or what if Donald Brashear and Mike Greer (buffalo sabres) went at it. I’m guessing your head would explode…

Brandon Jacobs attempted to punch D’angelo Hall in the ‘face’. Then Haynesworth took a swipe at Jacobs. Only Haynesworth got a penalty. It’s because the ref is a racist right?

Your point is stupid, and further proves drewh’s. The difference is there is a sense that blacks can’t controls themselves so the sport as a whole needs to be controlled and coonery needs to be eliminated. The Commissioner has a week long press conference if there’s a fight in a sport where people are SUPPOSED to hit each other. Yet in hockey it’s cool to get into a fight.

When is the last time they made a dress code for hockey players?
They basically said all nba player’s are children who dress like the young black youth and scare white business man, so now they HAVE to wear suits.

As far as Bret Farve goes all I can remember is farve mania the last 2 summers. Maybe i’m biased because I only watch sports channels but it seemed like it was more than tiger woods and vick combined so whatever analyst that said that sounds kind of dumb. Still doesn’t mean there isn’t a racist attitude towards “black” sports.

Football players are suposed to tackle each other not punch each other in the helmets (a stroke of genius btw). Fighting is penalized. Guess what fighting is penalized in hockey too. 5 minutes in the penalty box for the involved parties. Fighting is allowed and regulated in hockey. It puts asses in the seats in a sport with a dwindling fan base. This is a completely retarded argument and I can’t believe anyone is taking this serious.

Black men on Wall street have to wear suits to work. I bet a few of them would love to wear their sweet George Gervin Mitchell and Ness jersey with matching fitted but they do what their employer tells them. It’s as simple as that. David Stern didn’t want the bench to look like the “crack spot” so he implemented a dress code. How many players complained about that again? Oh wait, the majority supported it. Hockey players that are only the “healthy inactive” list don’t even sit on the bench. They don’t even show up to the arena. Make a relevant point if you are going to argue, please.

As far as public perception goes. Paul Tagliabue is not the reason Ray Lewis was on trial for murder. Roger Goodell wasn’t involved when Mike Vick paid people to run his kennel. Stern didn’t force Artest to throw haymakers at a guy holding a soda/beer. Stephen Jackson, enough said. These are all individuals that have brought shame to their teams. Boo hoo. This group happens to be black. There are plenty of white and latino athletes that have done the same.

You say a lot of retarded shit on this forum but defending this clown takes the cake.

When your getting paid millions to play a “sport”, you stfu and do what your told. No matter what ethnic group you belong to, and the double standards spoken of earlier in this thread are undeniable. Choosing not to recognize them isn’t ignorance, everyone knows they are there, it’s arrogance, because they are too proud to acknowledge the truth… Just my 2 cents…

Only white people can be considered racist, don’t you know this?

And hockey players arent forced to fight, you act like it was never popular and the fighting was added for entertainment. How blind can you be it’s racist anyway you wrap your head around it. If the refs broke up the fighting early then you could say they are penalized but this doesn’t happen. And you’re really going to compare suspensions. 5 minute penalty<whole season for Ron Artest. Haha Bonez don’t fight ignorance with ignorance.

On a separate note like counting beans said in the first initial reply there is a racial double standard in America. And that double standard is histrionically and culturally justified in a sense. Black America went through so much turmoil in the last 100 years of American history. Even though some of the punks out there may have not experienced any sort of racism towards them and their race they know the historical context of race conflict, primary black and white. You can’t honestly say that racism towards whites by blacks is greater than racism by whites to blacks simply because white Americans are still a vast majority.

On top of that the ESPN reporter whoever it was is not racist or anywhere near it. He is allowed to make such a statement if hes giving his personal opinion (not whilst acting as a journalist) especially under the circumstances that Rush Limbaugh made similar comments previously. Its obvious Rush Limbaugh would get more coverage because hes a bigger personality and some of his listeners are actual racist rednecks who call Obama a ‘Muslim.’ Calling your own President a Muslim, a derogatory remark insinuating he is not a ‘real American president’ whatever that means is doing a disservice to your own country and all your peoples.

I wanted a restraining order to keep me away from this thread but really, your comments are terribly unsophisticated. You are seeing what you choose to see, with no basis in reality or fact.

Fighting has ALWAYS been part of the sport of hockey. And the NHL undoubtedly decided that at some point they would “tolerate” it to an extent. If they didn’t choose to “tolerate” it, you would see long suspensions. The mere fact that a fight gets you a few minutes in the penalty box is clear evidence that fighting is “tolerated”, but regulated. Now, you want to compare apples and oranges; hockey to basketball. One if played on skates with protective padding and by average sized men, the other is played in shorts and a tank top by large men wearing no protection. Should we really “tolerate” fighting in the NBA where a star player could easily be injured and miss games, which would punish the fan base. David Stern made a business decision for the good of the players and the league. I don’t hear the players complaining. And you mention “public perception”? Last I checked, there wasn’t much of a “public perception” about hockey. Hockey is a third rate sport with poor attendance. Hockey is a footnote except among hockey fans. Football, baseball and to an extent, basketball, transcend typical fan bases. The bottom line is that each league is free to choose how it will protect its image, its brand and its players. David Stern has been the best thing for basketball since, well… David Stern. He took a league that was a joke in the 70’s, with an image of coke snorting miscreants, and helped build the league into the global brand it is today. Dr. J, one of the greatest players of his time, topped out at about a mil a year with his “big” contract. Today, a bench player on the fringe of the rotation is making more. Is it racist how the NBA molded the league to produce such revenue that these young black players earn guaranteed millions, injured, cut or not? You need to look elsewhere if you’re looking for racism. If you think it’s racist that a business owner decides he doesn’t like the image of players sitting on the bench wearing Tims, jeans and rapper bling, you are not living in the real world. Let me know the next non-snow day you start sporting Tims and jeans to your office job. Let me know when you wear that iced out chain over your dress shirt.

And so that we are further clear, you’d have an argument for “racism” is Artest goes into the stands to fight and receives a season long suspension, and a month later, Steve Nash is in the stands pummeling a paying fan and receives a lesser suspension. Then you might have something to whine about. Then, maybe we’ll see the good Reverend and his coalition jumping up and down.

Since he’s largely been completely absent from the NBA, I think we can all rest well at night knowing that by his absence, that there is not even a whiff of racism in the NBA. Linking racism and the NBA is about the silliest word association I’ve encountered on this site.

I think about this issue every time I see Katt Williams or Chris Rock on Comedy Central going off on “white boys”. If white people display any indignance over this comedic double-standard we’re all shot down because being called a white boy and other examples of clear racism towards whites is “nothing compared to the atrocities that blacks have suffered at the hands of whites”. It’s a classic case of wanting to get even rather than wanting equality.

there have been quite a few white comics on BET’s Comic view to say lots of things about black people…to a packed house of black people with no bad reaction…its fine, its how you say it not what you say…it comes down to the emotion you put in it when you deliver the joke. If you have a funny joke, say that shit with no regard for feelings hurt. Its comedy comedy is meant to poke fun at people. It only seems racist if you look around the room to make sure no black people are there…from my experience on the Imus topic, nobody in any hood I visit cared…some thought it was funny others didnt know who or what Don Imus was…don’t let big media dictate what you know about black people. you’ll end up knowing nothing.

It seems to me the worst crime and white person, especially a white man, can commit, is to be considered racist. Reverends Al and Jesse have made a pretty good living for themselves keeping white men afraid of appearing racist.

White people can fight and its a ok, you would NEVER see that in the NBA or NFL. And as far as I know they were giving Farve all types of shit.
What would you say if Steve Nash and Kevin Love duked it out to the death? Or what if Donald Brashear and Mike Greer (buffalo sabres) went at it. I’m guessing your head would explode…

It doesn’t matter, the NBA is seen as a black sport and hockey a white one.

Public perception, most people think NBA players are dumb shits and gangsters, this stigma is not attached to hockey or white dominant sports.
As a note: Keep in mind that Hockey, as far as I’m aware of, is the only sport in which an in-game incident has resulted in criminal charges. There have also been almost half year suspensions in the NHL, it’s a violent sport and it accepts some of it, but not all.
