Beat me to it, Tom.
In lieu of the Swagger boys, I’ll go with McMurtry’s Gus McCrae.
BTW, I’m right in the middle of S. Hunter’s “Havana”. Have you read it?
Yep, I’ve loved all the Swagger novels. I just like the characters, so it’s hard for me to say how it was compared to the others.
Dirty White Boys was also good. It had a little of the Swagger stuff in it also.
Did you read Black Light? It ties Dirty White Boys in a bit closer.

I read them all and liked them all. Some are better than others, but I just like those characters. I liked how they tied it all together in Black Light. I also enjoyed the end of Hot Springs. I think Lamar Pye and Odell were mentioned then. I’d have to check though.
I’m going to add Lazarus Long to my list.

Samwise Gamgee - dude was strong, loyal, resolute. And 3’ tall.
Darth Vader - total badass with some of the best lines in movie history. Could squat 1900lbs for warm-ups.

I’d have to say Anakin Skywalker is an awesome character from a literary perspective.
That fucktard Hayden Christensen really screwed up the role though. Lucas’ writing didn’t help.
Anakin: “I am a Jedi. I will never serve you!”
Emporer: “Bow down to me.”
Anakin: “You got it, boss.”
What a fuckin waste of character development.

Interesting choices. Probably THE two epic myths of the 20th century, and you have correctly identified the main protagonist of each.

Since you mentioned LOTR and Star Wars, might as well mention the Matrix. Neo has a vertical leap of 1 mile…
Oh wait, that’s flying.
