Fat Loss from LFO

Recent research on Licorice Flavonoid Oil has shown reduction of total body fat and visceral fat; the researchers conjecture the cause to be increasing energy expenditure through the enhancement of beta-oxidation and inhibition of lipogenesis. (1) Sounds pretty good to me. There are few products out there right now, and the reviews are limited.

In another study it was found to be safe, so that’s good. (2)

Anyone heard anything on this?

Sorry, couldn’t resist. I’ll check those links out tomorrow. Sounds interesting.

Interesting. It has been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years for weight loss together with guggul.

Wikipedia:

Liquorice affects the body’s endocrine system as it contains isoflavones (phytoestrogens). It might lower the amount of serum testosterone slightly,[11] but whether it affects the amount of free testosterone is unclear. Consuming liquorice can prevent hyperkalemia.[citation needed] Large doses of glycyrrhizinic acid and glycyrrhetinic acid in liquorice extract can lead to hypokalemia and serious increases in blood pressure, a syndrome known as apparent mineralocorticoid excess. These side effects stem from the inhibition of the enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (type 2) and subsequent increase in activity of cortisol on the kidney. 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase normally inactivates cortisol in the kidney; thus, liquorice’s inhibition of this enzyme makes the concentration of cortisol appear to increase. Cortisol acts at the same receptor as the hormone aldosterone in the kidney and the effects mimic aldosterone excess, although aldosterone remains low or normal during liquorice overdose. To decrease the chances of these serious side effects, deglycyrrhizinated liquorice preparations are available. The disabling of similar enzymes in the gut by glycyrrhizinic acid and glycyrrhetinic acid also causes increased mucus and decreased acid secretion. It inhibits Helicobacter pylori, is used as an aid for healing stomach and duodenal ulcers, and in moderate amounts may soothe an upset stomach. Liquorice can be used to treat ileitis, leaky gut syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s disease as it is antispasmodic in the bowels.[12]

The compounded carbenoxolone is derived from liquorice. Some studies indicate it may inhibit an enzyme in the brain that is involved in making stress-related hormones, which have been associated with age-related mental decline.[13]

Some very interesting stuff here: http://www.glabridin.com/intro.htm

I did a double take when I learned that it has the ability to whiten skin. I don’t think my white skin needs that.

Wikipedia:

Liquorice affects the body’s endocrine system as it contains isoflavones (phytoestrogens).
I’m not sure, but I think the LFO might have the phytoestrogens removed. I actually started taking something called DGL recently (deglycyrrhizinated licorice – they remove the glycyrrhiza which raises blood pressure – LFO also does not have glycyrrhiza). DGL is to help improve the mucosa lining of the GI tract (I have mild ulcers and digestive issues).
It might lower the amount of serum testosterone slightly,[11] but whether it affects the amount of free testosterone is unclear.
I actually seemed to get hornier off the DGL. Weird. I also completely removed wheat from my diet which I suspect was causing some issues. I’d removed it in the past with success (from a health and weight loss perspective) and stupidly re-introduced it. The effects of DGL seem to have independently increased my sex drive, which may indicate increased free test (Often times when something is reported to lower testosterone, it’s because free test increases)

I think the weight loss

Those lyrics are so much weaker looking back. No, I didn’t think they were particularly powerful back in the day, but now they are SO weak. I wonder what that guy is doing now… Probably getting ready for a VH1 show.

Hahaha, first thing I thought of when I saw the thread…you beat me to it.

On a more serious note, those links do look good.

I wonder if it can be applied topically for a spot reduction effect?

bumpity bump bump?

I don’t think this thread will get much love based on what little I’ve seen on the internet about the stuff…

This is weird, like Final Destination weird. I created this thread last wednesday, we make some bad LFO jokes, and they one week later (yesterday), the LFO guy dies!

If I ever make a thread with your name in it, watch out.

Funny you mention it, according to that link, he had a VH1 reality show already.

If I ever start a boy band, it’s going to be called DNP. We’ll make the girls sweat.

Sorry, once again, couldn’t resist. Still haven’t had time to dig into those links.

Didn’t this guy die recently? Pretty sure he had cancer. Maybe it was another boy band member.

Welcome to the rest of the thread.
