Rather than focusing specifically on the calories, I’d be curious what foods you’re eating to reach the intake you’re taking in.

How many calories do you think I should be eating?

Yesterday I had this. And 3 packets of oats, milk, and whey protein with chocolate syrup drizzled on top.

Other days when I was low calories, I eat whey protein, and chicken breast, greens, and some rice before workouts. After workout is more whey and fruit

Some more meals. Correct me if I can do better! I want to be jacked badly lol

I also want to add, that I was never able to eat clean before I added reta into my life. My triglyceride and insulin was permanently high, and my diet was mostly processed junk and fast food. Reta has changed my diet completely

These are great choices. Lots of “real food”.

Well done on the journey so far, love the determination and the story. Quick observation, you said this:

But from the pictures looks like pancakes with a lot of syrup and jam on toast? If that comment relates to those foods then I’d push back on the clean, nothing wrong with some treats in a refueling day, but I wouldn’t have called that clean.

Other than that, I’d echo the sentiment of trying to keep stable daily intake of food, keep doing what your doing - trying to build some healthy habits for the long haul!

This is true to be fair. I’m always comparing to my old ways. My usual meals used to be drive thru burgers, sodas, ice cream. Loads of sodium, and processed food, and terrible sources for protein.

I used to eat over 4-5 thousand calories, with only 100-120g of protein. And then feel guilty and starve the next day. I literally did this for years. SMH. My goal was to clean up my act before 40, and I have put in serious work since getting sober. I shouldn’t be alive. My labs looked so terrible, everything was failing. Looking back it was insane. I’m just glad I am getting my act together. I was always troubled my whole life.

I don’t know how you feel about apps, but I enjoy Chronometer. It will give you a guide for calories based on current weight and weight loss goals. I find it to be helpful and easy to use. Consistency will be extremely helpful.

How do you feel with what you’re eating? I like your food choices. With such giant swings, I don’t know what you’re getting out of calorie tracking anyway. I think we’d get more mileage out of just stabilizing your daily meals, especially as you’re over the dual hurdle of hunger and quality choices.

For context, I’m one of the last calorie counting dinosaurs… but I don’t think most need it in most situations.

I have found that I like counting calories to get me on track. If I stick to it too long it can become obsessive, but as a guide it is helpful to me. I have a tendency to vastly underestimate how much I am taking in. Quality food definitely makes it easier though as it’s harder to overindulge on real food than it is the ultra processed crap.

Every app has a different number. It’s so annoying. I wish all the “experts” would just choose one method. Lol!

If I was going to employ a calorie counting strategy, I’d use Stan Efferding’s “Vertical Diet” as my baseline. You can get the physical book (3.0) off amazon for pretty cheap.

I feel great. The high protein diet is very good for my mental health. I know there is science behind high protein diets helping depression. I feel pretty good, lots of energy. I’m using Stupid Simple macro tracker app. Every time in my life, I’ve lost weight, it was always when I counted calories and tracked macros, ate clean, and weighed myself every morning. It’s the only way it’s going to work for me

I’ve heard of the Vertical Diet, i’ll check it out. Thanks

Same. I try not to do it too much anymore, and I eyeball rather than weigh food (I didn’t love my daughter seeing that behavior), but it’s a nice reset to get me back into a “I’m in control” situation if/ when needed.

Great!

They’re all just starting points anyway. The only “real” number is yours. We just pick a starting point and then adjust based on what’s happening with you.

I’m pretty much the same.

Is there a number you’re shooting for? There’s just a lot of variance in your days.

To recap, though: you feel great, you have the energy to go to the gym, you’re eating nutritious , whole food meals, and you’ve lost 100 lbs (and counting)… I’m just not sure there’s a problem to solve right now.
