Well, fantasy football draft time is just around the corner! Looking at some of the surprises in baseball this year, many of them had some pretty serious offseason conditioning regimens such as Derek Lowe and Jeremy Giambi, and Bret Boone from the previous year. Pedro put on some bulk too and looks fully recovered. So does anyone have any inside info on any NFL players that worked especially hard in the offseason to get themselves in great shape? I heard Thomas Jones from AZ put on some muscle and might have a career year as the starting RB.
Thomas Jones is probably due for a big year… if his defense ever gets off the field and gives the ball to the O. They have a mammoth offensive line, it really depends on how well Plummer does at QB.
I would watch Tomlinson, in San Diego. Great rookie season, the O-line stunk, they brought in Marty Schottenheimer, who has done some work on the o-line… I expect Tomlinson to have a 1,400 yard season. You could also watch Priest Holmes as well… nothing new, he should do well.
I’m a Redskins fan, but I’d be weary of drafting Davis early… since Spurrier has taken over. However I could be wrong, and their D looks like it could very well be one of the top 4 in the league, which could get him a ton of carries, and like Eddie George he’s one of those backs that do better as they get more carries.
For WR’s… watch for some of the lesser knowns that have big seasons. For some reason Jimmy Smith and Rod Smith. Rod was on track to destroying the single season recieving record, when he was injured last year. Also a nice sleeper in a late round could be Marty Booker again… unless his popularity has greatly increased.
A HUGE thing to look at is to see if RB’s are rewarded for catches and recieving yards. A good strategy might be to get someone like Larry Centers, who had 80 receptions last year, to supplement for a mediocre recieving crew.
Woo hoo! Time to start thinking about Football again! Woo Hoo! So, Renegade, you’re thinking that San Diego may have a decent ball club this season?!
*praying that my Niners come out strong this year....*
holy crap i cant wait till football season, sitting around every Sunday, watching the games all day keeping track of the stats, watching my Rams taking to the superbowl again. what do you guys think about Strahan?
Another one I forgot about was David Boston. I didn’t realize last year he hired Poliquin as a trainer and man did he ever progress. So who’s got some inside info for me?
They play football on Sundays? I thought all the games were on Saturday.
Boston is an animal. Take a Linebacker’s size and tenacity, and put it into a wide receiver… That guy has got some guns.
San Diego I think will go about 9-7 barring any serious injuries. I mean Marty Schottenheimer is the man when it comes to coaching. He took my Skins, with Tony Banks(Quite possibly the worst QB ever, next to Cryan Leaf) and went 8-3 after a 0-5 start… that and I just like the style of football Marty coached, hard grind it to the bone, power… for 60 minutes. But he made some bad personel decisions in Washington, and he’s been alleviated of that duty from him in San Diego.
I’m also hoping Brees takes the job from Flutie at QB. Man oh man it pissed me off to hear Flutie whining about this and that, and how it wasn’t his fault when he made absolutely horrible throws.
Oh yeah, a late round sleeper could be Jacquez Green from the Skins… he had 60 catches last year with Tampa, and now he’s playing for the coach that made him a star at Florida. Word is also he’s beating Champ Bailey and Fred Smoot in practice…
Redskins fan ha ha ha ha ha!!! Dan Snyder as an owner ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Skins are going nowhere as usual. Your coach is unproven in the NFL and you have no quarterback and what’s with all those high paid free agents, they suck!!! GO E-A-G-L-E-S!!!
Guys and gals, we’re getting off track here…what I’m looking for is any info on players who significantly improved in the off-season e.g. adding 10-20 lbs. of lean muscle or shaving time off their 40 etc. etc. Guys like Rod and Jimmy Smith are givens…how about some lesser knowns? If y’all wanna debate over who’s got the best team I have no problem w. that but do it on another thread please.
