I agree. F Philly. The only good thing to come out of that city was Rocky, and he was fake.[/quote]

And cheesesteaks. Must give props to cheesesteaks.

Outside of that, yeah… 100% with ya.

Throw’em out there man. Let me know.

Johnathan Stewart, Matt Forte, Darren McFadden… I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting.

Yea I think Forte could be a big one. Even though Chitown’s quarterbacks are pathetic and their offense hasn’t been good since Walter Payton.

I’m from Philadelphia, it sounds like a few of you guys have a very basic view of the world.

as far as Rookie RB’s:

There are a few out there that have questionable starters in front of them but could end up their teams starter by seasons end. Here’s some of the names

Hightower
Ray Rice
Steve Slaton

these guys are late rounders and long shots for a big payoff. Names like Forte and McFadden are kinda obvious.

Fantasy Football is getting f’huge.

Even Budwiser pays tribute:

See that’s the ones I’m looking for. I rarely watch college football because I used to always work weekends, so I have no idea of good up and comers and sleepers.

I will keep an eye out on these ones.

Good look.

A Cowboys fan agreeing with me? Them’s fighting words!

i don’t play fantasy football anymore, but i will say that santonio holmes is going to break out. and yes, it’s a homer pick, but it’s true.

i also went to the niners-packers game last week. i know it’s preseason, but…

-the packers offense looked AWFUL. their line sucked. it’s gonna be a long year for rodgers.
-jt o’sullivan (niners starting qb) looked solid. twice as good as alex smith, if not more.
-josh morgan (niners wr) is probably going to win the #2 reciever spot. if so…watch out. the guy is a playmaker.

That’s exactly how I feel. I’m getting into one this year for the first time with people from the gym. They have all their first 10 picks layed out with every variation. They also practice mock drafts every day guessing what they will do. I’m still trying to figure out how the frigging this works.

I be lovin fantasy football! I’ll be in 3 leagues this year. Here’s the team I drafted the other night.

QB McNabb/Eli Manning
RB Ladanian Tomlinson
RB Brandon Jacobs
WR Braylon Edwards
WR L. Coles
WR Calvin Johnson
TE Witten
RB/WR Reggie Bush
Def Minnesota

I felt the same way the first time I played 2 years ago. I was really intrigued by fantasy but clueless as to how it all worked. The best thing I did was join an online league (no money involved) to educate myself a little and get a feel for it. I also read as much as I could about fantasy and actually ended up dominating the league.

Anonymous online leagues are a great way to ease yourself into money leagues later. You aren’t out anything if you suck balls and the online leagues I’ve done haven’t been outrageously competitive so you can just have fun with it and learn as you go.

Don’t relegate yourself to “prison bitch” yet, it can be done!

Just did my first trade:

He gets -
Peyton Manning
Aaron Rodgers
Edgerrin James
Dwayne Bowe

I get -
Tom Brady
Matt Leinart
Chris Brown
Reggie Brown

Now some of you may be thinking that it’s a little unbalanced, especially since I traded a proven, starting RB for a young dude in a two back rotation. Well, I think despite the injury talk that Tom Brady is still going to be productive as hell. In addition, I had Kevin Curtis before but with his hernia I needed to take action. Thus Reggie Brown enters the equasion.

My starters in this league are now:

Tom Brady
Ryan Grant
Chris Brown
DJ Hackett
Amani Toomer
Reggie Brown
Jeremy Shockey
Josh Scobee
Jacksonville D

Pretty weak team, but keep in mind it’s a Keeper League and I inheritied somebody else’s shitty team.

The first year I played I got raped. The second year I went 13-1 on the legs of Frank Gore.

I’m not the MOST knowledgeable guy about football, but last year I finished 5 out of 14. It’s more about drafting decently, then figuring out quickly who gets hurt and jumping on the guys who catch fire.

Yeah, from my experiences it’s more about paying attention to the injury report and picking up guys off waivers than about having a good draft. As long as you have a consistently productive QB/WR/RB combination, everything else should take care of itself.

So the yahoo league I am in allows for an 18 player roster. You can play 9 at a time -

1-QB, 3-WR’s, 2RB’s, 1-TE, 1-K, 1-D.

I assume this is pretty much standard among all leagues.

Our draft is Aug 31.

What should I be looking to accomplish with my early picks in the draft? WR’s first then RB’s? Or get a good receiver, and back him up with a good RB?

I figure if I draft well, I just have to avoid the injury bug and I may not be getting ass-raped as bad as I am imagining.

You want to take a RB or a QB with your first pick RJ. It really depends on what pick you have, obviously the earlier your pick the easier your decision will be. Do you know what pick you are?

Not yet.

So QB or RB? I was thinking the receiving corps would produce more points than a single qb, or rb.

Thanks for the info.

Running backs first. Always.

Unless you’re getting Brady, then wait on a quarterback until the fifth round or later.

You’re looking for guys like LT, Adrian Peterson, Steven Jackson, Joesph Addai, Brian Westbrook. Running backs that don’t platoon, get lots of carries, and don’t get yanked near the goal line in favor of bigger backs. RB’s always get you the most points unless your scoring is bizarre. Being as they also tend to catch alot of passes and screens, they touch the ball more than anyone else in the game.

I’m keeping Frank Gore from my team last year, so he’s my “First pick”. When it comes back around, I’ll pick up another big back, depending on who’s left. Look online and print out cheat sheets that list the players and what many consider to be their rankings.

Ones like this are helpful: http://www.fftoolbox.com/football/2008/overall.cfm

After I get my two RB’s, I tend to look for a big name receiver, or a solid one at least, because my league plays four receivers. Chad Johnson, Randy Moss, TO, these guys will get taken early, so I look more for middle of the road guys like Plax, Colston, etc. Great receivers, but not so great they get snapped up immediately.

Remember, a great day for a receiver is 10 catches, 120 yards, maybe a touchdown.

A great day for a RB is 30 carries, 140 yards, 2 or 3 TD’s, then maybe 10 catches for another 50 yards, etc. If you’re getting points for carries, yards, TD, receptions, receiving yards, it all adds up quick. Gore in 2006 was a one man wrecking crew for me. LT is the same way.

If you can get a combo in regards to QB/WR, like (by a miracle) picking up Brady and Moss, or Manning and Wayne, then do it, because when they have terrific games you double your points up. Even one like Tony Homo and whoever his #2 is isn’t bad, or Favre/Coles. I always thought this is like getting the trifecta though… happens when you’re lucky. I had Favre in Jennings’ first year, and I picked up Jennings in the late rounds when noone was paying attention. That was the year my man tore it up.

QB’s I pick late. Fifth round, sixth round, whatever. Most QB’s will do OK, as they fit into the bell curve somewhere and will give you some 300 yard games, some shootouts with lots of touchdowns, etc. I had Kitna last year, which worked out for me because the Lions threw the ball so fucking much even though he wasn’t great.

Defenses/tight ends are the last, least of your worries. All interchangeable. Even the best TE is not worth a fourth or fifth round pick because they won’t see the ball as much as a RB or WR.

These are just my humble opinions.

and of course, right after i post about how bad the packer line is, rodgers goes 18-22 the next game.

yay preseason.

RJ, i think you may overestimate the level of play in your league…i mean, it doesn’t really matter how experienced you are or not, injuries happen, and i’ve seen (plenty of times) the least experienced player, or the girlfriend of one of your friends in the league, go out and win the championship, even with david carr at qb because “he’s hot”.

stranger things have happened.
