I just so happened to catch the premiere of this documentary 2 days ago on PBS - I’m in New York, the station might go by other name in other areas. Has anybody else seen it? This documentary seems like a movie, only it’s real life. Son of some poor immigrants, gets elected to be president of Peru. To fight terroism in his country, he did a “self cout” - literally overthrow the goverment he’s governing - in order to implement the laws he wants.
He disassemble the congress, shuts down the media. Remeber, this is a democratic country. For some reason, the military was behind him. Some time later, some funny shit happens such as his own wife tries to run against him in 1995 election. Fought off the hostage crisis in 1996/97. Eventually he’s exiled and placed on most wanted list by the interpol for murder and other serious charges. Then still has the balls to try to go back to Peru and run for president (he still has 35 ~ 40% approval rating in Peru). What u guys think? A T-Man, just a man or an arse? Also, I’m wondering if there are any Peruvians here that lived through his 10 year reign.

He dismantled congress, the judiciary and the media because they were all in the pockets of the drug cartels/terrorists. His big mistake was to have Montesinos (CIA asset) http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=03/04/07/025234
as one of his chief advisors. Fujimori was big time against the Panamerican Union and FTAA (Free trade agreement of the americas) therefore he stood in the way of the globalists plans to make south america like europe, so Montesinos made sure that Fujimori got his for betraying the globalists plans.

You meant to say "Remember, this WAS a democracy. With the congress and media out of the way, it wasn’t a democracy any more.
corrupt congress and corrupt media make a corrupt democracy.[/quote]
The thing that gets me is how was he able to do it? You need the military to be behind you, majority of the soldiers had to somehow believe in what he’s doing. These soldiers know that what Fujimori is doing is dictatorship not democracy, but they went along with it! He created dictatorship out of democracy over night.
I’m not disputing right or wrong of what Fujimori was doing, just little mind boggling how he’s able to control the military the way he did. Can you imagine if Bush or any president of united states doing that?
