Okay, yes, I have a Facebook account, and as means of explanation (beyond it being kinda fun knowing what your friends are up to without actually having to call them), it seems to be the only way to actually keep in touch with some people these days.
My issue however, is getting these ‘odd’ friend requests. A lot of people who are into fitness, or bodybuilding just like to have anyone associated with the lifestyle as their friends (50000 friends? really?!), and I very often get add requests from people that I realize saw my profile on another natural bodybuilder’s friend list. I very rarely add them, unless it’s someone I may have spoken to at a show, or at least I’ve had some interaction with.
The reason I’m writing this, is that as I make no secret of what my actual name is, a few people from T-Muscle have friend requested me. Totally fine in my book, especially if it’s someone who I actually know who they are on here,… but please tell me who you are! -lol. Really, without sounding like an ass, I ignore so many damn friend requests simply because I don’t know who these people are!
Again, I certainly don’t mind people from here adding me. I’ve had quite a few conversations with Brick, and actually just clarified some training questions (I already forgot about what) for Kerley just this past week,… but just tell me who you are! -lol. Usually when I get a request from someone and their ‘friends in common’ with me are Thibs, Nate Green, and TC, I do get a basic hunch.
Not a request but almost - I just got a message from someone claiming to know my brother from primary school (so something like 15 years ago). Since my brother’s not on Facebook (he hates it) I have absolutely no idea how this person found me, since I doubt she knew my first name and my surname, while not common, is not very unique.

That same thing happened to my friend. He added the person, and the next day he woke up duct taped to the ceiling of a pet store, with a shaved head and missing all of his toes.
Congrats on the pro card, I have followed you progress and comps quite a bit. Your kicking some serious ass.
I also had my grandmother send you a friend request on Facebook I hope you don’t think that strange. BTW if you don’t accept her she will cry for a week!

Hmmm… I don’t mind duct tape, I need a haircut and my toes always seemed too long. I might add her in that case.

It’s possible that she googled your brother’s name and came up with yours; then out found you had a facebook account. It’s scary how much info you can glean about a person just by googling certain key terms - a name or username (many people use the same usename on several different websites, so a post here and there adds up) could be developed into quite a detailed profile.
That’s why I’m reluctant to post much about myself on line (for me, it more about controlling how my personal info is used rather than being paranoid). It’s gotten to the point where you’ve got to monitor what other people post about you as well: an acquaintance took a casual snap, then told me it was going on her facebook.
Then again, I’m not particularly stalkable so I shouldn’t worry about it so much.

Lol, (don’t worry, I’ll send her an autographed 8x10!) again,… I realize that amongst people who actually follow contests, some people will recognize me, I’m okay with that, I just like to know at least something (ie. yeah, we chatted about ______ that one time).
Some of the requests are certainly cool. I mean, I was pretty reluctant to set up an account, but I’ve had people I haven’t spoken to in years contact me,… heck, I’ve had people whose names I remember from elementary school (who we weren’t friendly in high school even) find me and strike up conversations.
