alright this has been bugging me. I have a 3rd party speaker system that you can plug into your Ipod or other music player. It has a headphone jack you plug directly into the Ipod.
BUT
On the one of the speakers there is jack for your headphones.

Plugging headphones directly into you ipod is soooo last year. Ipod plugged into speakers, then headphones into jack on side of speakers is def. the way to go
