I’ve been pimping this exercise around for a while now but have you tried “sled” treadmill sprints? Basically you run on the treadmill on the off position and the belt acts as resistance.
Pushing on the console while running = pushing sled
Running backwards while holding onto sides = pulling sled
At first you feel dumb as fuck but from experience works just as hard for hill sprints IMO. You do get some confused looks once in a while but whatevs.
I just bust out a most muscular.
Haven’t broken a single treadmill either in case you are worried.
