aw man sorry to hear that Deb. I’ve had my cat for 10 years and I know the day will come when she won’t be around and that’s going to hurt like hell…
would I sound like a totally insensitive slob if I asked what was wrong? Don’t answer if you don’t care to share.
greenies - that spread sounds just about perfect :)[/quote]
Not at all!
He had a urinary blockage about 2 months ago because of struvite crystals in his bladder so he was in the vet for almost a week while they treated him for that. After that he was never quite back to normal and he was having increasing discomfort peeing. But he had no signs of infection or crystals, but there was a small amount of red blood cells in his bladder. Last week he was on a couple of medications trying to get him to relax and pee and some painkillers. The vet said he has cystitis meaning his bladder lining had broken down and the urine is irritating the bladder.
When I brought him back in yesterday, he was straining to pee constantly and in a lot of discomfort. It appeared the irritation was also in his urinary tract. He was appearing to be blocked again. The vet didn’t believe he was blocked but the assistant was sure he was. because of the inflammation of the urinary tract, putting in a catheter was going to be a problem but that is the treatment for a blockage.
When I left him yesterday, they were going to drug him and try to get him to urinate that way and if that didn’t work try the catheter. But the prognosis was grim and that if his ability to urinate doesn’t magically come back, he won’t survive and he’ll be in a lot of pain.
He was crying a terrible moan when I left the vets yesterday, he was in a lot of pain.
JUST as I’m typing this the vet assistant called to let me know he is doing much better, they were able to give him a catheter and they’re going to leave it in tonight and call us tomorrow. I don’t know what is going to happen when thy take it out though. Chances are, he will return to the same condition of being unable to pee and he’ll probably have to be put to sleep or go through this painful procedure over and over again.
Thanks for the hugs ![]()
Good morning. So, we have idiots living above us. Last night I guess they were drunk, coming home and rang our doorbell instead of their own. Of course we didn’t answer it, it was fricking 1am!!! Suddenly we hear glass breaking! IH and I were like “WTF?!?!?!” There’s a floor to ceiling window right next to the door and they must have broken it to try and get in when no one answered the bell. Then the rest of the people from upstairs come running down and are like “WTF you doing?@?@?” Then they go upstairs. Glass is everywhere in the entryway.
The ironic thing is: the door doesn’t lock in the winter because the doorjamb expands…There was no need to break the glass.
Not to be a dick, but if I was that cat… I would want to be put down.
Fuck living like that.
Poor thing
I’m gonna go cry for your cat now…

Deb, poor guy!!! I hope they make him as comfortable as possible.
N, no shit!!! I just heard them come down the stairs laughing about it all…being like “Dude! can’t believe you did that!” and “So cool!!!” ![]()

Yeah I know ![]()
When he went through the catheter thing a couple of months ago, the hope was he wouldn’t have to again with special cat food. Most of the time a cat is fine after a blockage is cleared. He was almost back to normal last month so I had gotten used to the idea he would be fine now. Then I brought him back last week the vet thought he was just having some inflammation that would go away with the drugs but nothing to worry about.
But yesterday things got a lot worse fast. But I couldn’t put him down yesterday when I wasn’t sure yet and the vet wasn’t sure.

The better news is that he hasn’t had any more signs of crystals since last time so that’s not what the problem is, this time. But that makes the problem kind of mysterious and so we don’t know if this will work. They’ve been giving him a different medication too.
I`m going to have to stop talking about my poor cat now ![]()

Sounds like fun. We don’t have christmas parties at work anymore. Everyone is too poor or too busy.
