Is there a point in doing shrugs with that much weight?
Not unless your getting it for like 20+ reps.

My traps love volume. My fav set up was after deads:

455x8
505x8
555x8
405x20

or

505x8
555x6
605x4
405x20

Now, because I hate Trav (and TD also has a hand in my sudden move to higher rep ranges) I’m doing:
315x25
405x20+
505xas close to 20 as possible.

So yeah, my traps don’t totally suck, and the shrugs always helped move my deadlift. But I haven’t pulled from the floor in awhile.

So yes, there is a lot of benefit from using that much weight.

I remember before you talked about bench too much, and never doing enough back work and shoulder rehab.

You ever think about starting a thread and telling your story as to show the youth the right/wrong way to approach this thing?
That’s a good idea.

Put your kid on the sled dude, it’s a fun ride!

And you ARE going to push that thing on grass sometime. You are. Oh yes, yes you are!
Note to self: Mow grass down to putting green levels, push on grass, video it, never push on grass again.

LOL.

You fucking know I will. No way am I going to be a pussy forever, just a while is all.

My favorite shrug is seated, there used to be a machine set up like that in my old gym and I liked it alot because it was impossible to cheat.

I don’t do shrugs anymore though.

We have a seated shrug machine but no one uses it sitting down. They stand in front of it, facing it, and do shrugs.

That’s because they can use more weight and it looks cool lol

I think Barbell shrugs with no straps would be awesome for deadlift grip and getting used to more tension on your traps.

I remember watching Matt Kroc dual overhand 675x15 or something like that, but he’s always been crazy with the upperback assistance work.

I liked to do them standing, but with my ass against the back rest and do row/shrug… sort of like a behind the back row, but it hits the whole upper back and trap region.

I had a can of black beans and a 1/2lbs of burger for dinner.

Tomorrow morning is going to be epic.

That’s like what Lee Haney did right? I’ve never tried them behind the back like that.

Yup. With the HS machine, you get a fuller range of motion and can put some decent weight on it.

The way Haney did it, was awkward since it was with a barbell.
