Well I think I have found a cardio type goal. The 1 mile timing thing(what’s a good one to shoot for?). Not sure what a good approach to tackling it would be either. Well other than just running a miles and trying to get faster. lol I think we used to have to do those as fitness test things in school.
Efforts today were thwarted by the evil cooties from hell.
I ran walked the 4 times around the track(blah) and when I did my sprints it was half the amount and it felt like I was sprinting though pudding. lol But I like the track and the field so that part was good at least, no kids just people running/walking/doing stairs. Good vibe.

Interval training is the way to go. Basically what you are doing. Sprint/Run some Walk/Jog some. It will get easier. You can also vary the interval distance you chose. Shorter distances are good for sprinting.
As far as time goes, what is good really depends on where you are starting from. If you truly are a beginner at running, maybe shoot for a 10 minute mile? Have you timed yourself yet, even if it is a running/jogging/walking mixture. It will give you the base to start from.
Haven’t timed it yet just wanted to get out and try today.
But yeah 10mins sounds like a good time to shoot for(it sounds familiar).
Can you have beginner gains with cardio too?
There should be beginner gains, just take it slowly anyway. No shame in running/walking until your body becomes accustomed to it.
I walk when doing sprint intervals.
I will typically jog if doing running intervals, but, again, take your time working up to it.
Yeah I usually walk between sprints too.
I’ll just have to time my mile next time and see where I’m at.
How often during the week is good for running?
I almost missed this with all the slapping going on here.
I would say to start with two or three days a week. I assume that some days you are lifting weights? How many days do you lift?
What has worked well for me in the past is 3X full body weightlifting (1 day heavy, low reps, 1 day medium, medium reps and one day lighter, higher reps) and 3X a week running. One day of rest. I experimented with all sorts of schedules, but that seamed to fit well for me.
Now that I’m doing crossfit and oly lifting, I’m only running 1X a week. I want to get it up to 2X, but it will depend on how I’m feeling.
If Deb reads this, she might have some input as well. I believe that she runs.
The only thing I want to keep the same for now is 5/3/1 for bench. But maybe I can work that into a 2-3x a week full body thing.
When you did full body did you do the same lifts for each day but just used lighter weights?

Totally random but made me giggle.

I did different exercises everyday, and would always start with lower body. Heavy day-Back Squats/Medium days-Front Squats/Light days One-legged Squats…
I would just make sure to hit every body part.
I can’t do the same exercises every day.

My 48# 5 year old daughter lifted a 50# KB this afternoon and it was awesome, lol.
Currently watching a documentary on the Rocky movies on biographical channel, pretty cool

That is awesome and probably way cute too.
Oh. I’m in so much pain. I tweeked an ass or hamstring or something.
Was doing back squats (only 125 pounds) and had to dump the bar after the 5th rep.
I couldn’t move for at least a minute.

Eek that sounds bad.
Is it the muscle or maybe a nerve?

I think that it’s a muscle knot.
Right now I’m sitting on a neck massager and it is circling something knot like in my ass.
I can bend from the waist now. I have never felt so much pain while lifting. I think I over did it… duh… my advice is to take it slow and look at me! I did hill sprints on Sunday, crossfit yesterday (which included front squats and thrusters) then oly lifting tonight.
Thanks for the sympathy!

Maybe a muscle relaxer?
I find small balls(golf balls) and going with the grain of the muscle helps to work out knots.
