Not today. Mock meet day actually, but I’ll be back on the “prowl” soon. It’s been a while since I made a vid with it, so I think it’s time…[/quote]

“mock meet” sounded funny in my head

Mock meat?

It does have a funny ring to it doesn’t it? Or maybe I am off my meds again… So hard to tell some days.

Just got done with some box jumps. Why didn’t anyone tell me how fun these things are? How do you guys go about incorporating them? I just kinda pyramided up to 20 jumps then back down in increments of 5. I could probably do way more, but was getting a feel for not just tumbling forward over the step. Also what stance? I played but it there anything ideal?

Patch—i use them in all sorts of capacities. Mostly for cardio sessions but they have other uses. I super set them with other plyo work or maybe pullups/pushups. I hop up and make sure I get full hip extension at the top and then step down pretty quick. I use a shoulder width base. Once you get super comfortable, I throw them in complexes: frog box jumps, burpee box jumps, etc. Lots can be done with plyo boxes.

Full hip extension is just standing up all the way?

You don’t jump back down?

Stand up and pull the hips all the way through. Its the most often neglected part of a box jump. I personally dont jump down just because I think its a tad unnecessary. If you are good with absorbing that impact or if it helps you build a rhythm, then it can be justified. I quickly reset either way so I just step down. How tall is the box you are using?

Took one of my kids to ER yesterday (everything OK now). I feel like a damn freight train ran over my head today. I swear everytime I get near a DR office or hospital, I get some kind of powerhouse strain of fucked upness.

I actually used the step thing the class uses I put it at knee height. One of the reasons I tried it was because I need to be a better impact absorber when I do anything dynamic. So I really thought about landing with bent knees, the follow through of KB swings was in my head too so I think the hip extension was covered.

Yes, remember you “fixed” my post about me being the only Cubs fan on the planet? And while I am upset the Cardinals won, I am happy that a former Cub, Ryan Theriot, got a World Series ring, finally.
