I have a friend whose husband retired as a police officer and they moved to Vegas. She’s in her 40s, really fun and was looking for another legal assistant job. I told her she was insane. She should have taken a job in one of the casinos because I guarantee she would make a boatload of money with her tips. A guy who did nothing but move luggage in and out of holding at the casino where I stayed in Vegas told me he made 6 figures. Easy to believe. When I left for the airport I gave him $5 to get my one piece of luggage out of the holding room. It took him ONE minute. Figure most people have multiple pieces of luggage and the room I had was $189 and it was not a top tier room so there were people staying there who make serious bank.

Anyway…Greeny…getting a foot in the door and getting to know the place, how it’s run, the managers…you’ll have your dream job before you know it. I think people who work their way up have a better grasp on how a place runs than those who waltz in off the street.

I’m SO excited for you.
In Vegas you make serious money. Front Desk Clerks on the Strip start at $14.25. The cost of living is like half to three quarters of what it is in Chicago, so that goes a long way. I know in Chicago Front Desk Clerks started around…$13 if not less.

Congrats Greenie!

What savings account? I won’t have anything left over for savings…

And I’m pretty sure since the “tips” part of my salary is a portion of the pooled tips of 3 shifts, I’ll have to claim 100% of them too…dammit.
Claiming 100% of tips is more of a… suggestion

IH, please, tell us how you really feel haha

Well, I don’t know if I would be getting cash tips…like a server would. Most times you get tipped it’s with chips and you have to put them in a box. I don’t know how they’re given out, if they’re added to your paycheck automatically or what. I know how it works with bartenders, you just split the jar at the end of the night. But this is over 3 shifts. I don’t know how that works.
No you just turn in your chips at the end of your shift, then exchange the chips for cash.
How would you know? You’re still in Junior High. Well, it depends on what casino you work for, some have tip boxes, some allow you to keep your tips in your pocket and cash them out at night.
Yeah, the Gaming Board guy said that it’s a portion of the tips pooled from all 3 shifts. I just don’t know how they’re distributed.
Oh…portion. That is better.
