Their remaining life span is shown on a digital display on their forearm. If the display hits zero, they die.

I was hoping for a new Gattaca (both were written and directed by Andrew Niccol), and the premise was interesting enough to convince me to watch a Justin Timberlake movie (yes, he’s the lead, and no, he’s not that bad. He doesn’t set the screen on fire, yet doesn’t make you feel like putting a match to the projection reel, either).

When Timberlake’s character comes into possession of a hundred years of life, he is pursued by the Timekeepers (sort of police who regulate the distribution of time) who believe he has killed a wealthy (that is, very old) businessman for the lifespan.

It started off well, but ends up as a kind of sci-fi Bonnie and Clyde. Olivia Wilde plays a remarkably well-preserved MILF; while Cillian Murphy is underused as the head timekeeper - his backstory hints at a more complex character than we end up with, and the movie suffers from repetitive running scenes (seems like the running time was padded out with literally lots of jogging and sprinting) as well as a surplus of cliches, usually in combination with the running.

Enjoyable, but didn’t live up to its potential and, although it’s not a must-see, you could do far worse.
Potential…? That movie looks endlessly stupid. ‘‘Could do far worse’’ is likely the best thing to be said about it.
Not to judge the book by the cover, but Christ I don’t think there’s any way they could improve on that garbage storyline
You haven’t seen it, so clearly you are judging “the book by the cover”. I don’t get why you’re even posting about it now. This isn’t “trailers you’ve watched this week”.

Lol

I will watch this on blue ray for sure. Reminded me of Logans Run 2011 version.

I used to watch the shit out of that show though. They always looked old as hell though to be in high school.
The only one that had the look to pass was holly Robinson (fine azz mofo that she was).

But trust me. They just took the name and decided to shyt on almost the whole concept of the series.
…which is just wrong in my opinion. They could have made a good movie that brought in the old fans of the tv show…especially since Depp is now a major actor in Hollywood.

You can still watch it on “The Cube”. It’s a baytown channel but broadcast through Houston. All the old shows are on there.

It definitely had a lot in common with Logan’s Run (btw, Ryan Gosling and Nicholas Winding Refn are planning an official remake), but what really drew me to it was the idea of time as a commodity. Some of the best moments came from that idea, but the chase scenes were generally repetitive and seemed to function only as padding. Ironic that the moments of movement slowed the movie down…

The Timekeepers weren’t nearly threatening enough: I’d like to have seen them earn life for apprehending criminals (and they did, but they didn’t carry much time and seemed to be working on travel expenses. If they were promised a ‘golden watch’ on retirement it would have raised the whole movie) which would have contrasted well with the criminals who killed for time instead of killing it.

Quarantine 2 - better than I thought it would be, but the finished product was like a mash-up of 28 Days Later and Flight of the Living Dead.

I loved Quarantine because it was based on REC, which borrowed from ‘lost footage’ movies like The Blair Witch Project, as well as 1st person shoot 'em ups. I’d quite happily watch Quarantine 3 if they make it (I like the idea of parallel franchise), but I can’t help thinking that the makers of the Spanish originals have an ace up their sleeves (REC 3 is a prequel; Quarantine 3 will be set in Las Vegas).

Watched Source Code last night. I actually enjoyed it, pretty cool sci-fi really. Again I had drove 8 hours for a 2 hour interview yesterday so I may have been tired.

Finally got around to watching Inglourious Basterds.

All in all, a disappointing flick. While Colonel Landa ultimately stole every scene he was in, the lack of decent development for the Basterds who had potential for interesting story lines (Stiglitz, the Bear Jew) and several logic fails throughout the movie makes this movie a ‘meh’, at best.

Worth a watch one time through, maybe a second because Landa’s scenes were pretty good… but definitely not a classic.

Good to know. Two movies I wanted to see, but just didn’t make time for them. I was going to go see “In Time” just because I got a thing for Olivia Wilde and Amanda Seyfried.

I’d have to agree. But watching Hitler and his henchmen getting gunned down to a pile of burger was somehow so gratifying!

Source Code was great. I caught it when it was first released and enjoyed it in spite of the running commentary from a couple in the row behind me. I’ve a hunch they just turned up and asked the usher to recommend a movie. It’s one I’ve been meaning to watch again on DVD.

Just found out there are plans to develop it into a TV series.

Really? Wow, I am a sci-fi geek so I love shit like that and I thought the acting was pretty well done. Pretty cool concept.

SPOILER ALERT – EVEN THOUGH IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN IT BY NOW YOU SHOULDN’T BE ABLE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT SHIT LIKE THAT

Agreed, though one might think the thought would occur to them that, gee whiz, between the crazy lady talking about burning the place down (they weren’t in the theater but they were right outside the door) and the entire theater subsequently turning into an inferno that the situation would resolve itself nicely enough without them needing to stand there until they blew up.

Kill Hitler, chuck the dynamite into the crowd, and bounce.

Yeah, maybe they were just in a blind rage (the Bear Jew in particular)… but I still found it a dissatisfying way to kill them off.

Same goes for Stiglitz in the bar… wtf is the point of his badass guitar riff/intro if he is only going to get a couple of lines and minimal screen time? I would have definitely enjoyed seeming him knife a few more Nazis.

I think Tarantino was just trying to cram too much into one movie.

Diane Kruger (Bridget von Hammersmark) is pretty ridiculously hot, though, so that was a plus.

Yeah. The ending left the door open for doing something really special with the sequels, but it would work even better as a series. Duncan Jones is a director going places after this and Moon.

Well actually no I guess I didnt, Damn I hate to feel like I missed something.

My goofy kids the 18 and 19 year old watched it with us and they tend to yap at weird freaking times.

Who was the cameo? And for some reason due to the ending I just got that Quantum Leap vibe.

First, I admit that I knew about it before I went in and would have missed it otherwise. I won’t call this a spoiler, b/c it isn’t really:

At one point, Gyllenhaal’s character talks to his father on the phone; Scott Bakula provides Daddy’s voice…Duncan Jones asked Bakula to play Stevens Sr. as a nod to the similarities between Source Code and Quantum Leap.

No idea. I’ve seen his acting get slated, but he wouldn’t have been able to carry a series like Quantum Leap if there was any truth to that. Every now and then I see him in an obscure post-Quantum Leap TV movie.

My best guess is that a lead in a successful TV series only became a springboard to leading movie roles after E.R (Clooney).

< Mutual fan of Quantum Leap here. Bakula and Dean Stockwell should’ve gone on to “bigger and better things”(even the chick that did the opening credits narration deserved more) , but alas they joined the endless line of movie stars in waiting that kept on waiting:

That clip gave me goosebumps. I forgot just how good he was. He played someone else in somebody else’s body in every episode.
