Even More Movies You've Watched This Week

Eraserhead- W…T…F surprised I watched as much as I did, after maybe 45 mins couldn’t take anymore.

Night Breed- was ehh

Aliens- not much to say, really good

The Brood- from 1979 I believe, not that good. About a wife who is being treated by an unconventional psychologist. Random attacks give you some jumps and intrigue, but overall, not that good of a movie.

Drag Me to Hell- the description of the movie makes it sound awful, but really enjoyed this horror movie.

Contagion - turn your attention span to “full” before you see this, otherwise you’ll walk out ten minutes before the ending like two girls sat in the row ahead of me did (it seems longer than the advertised running time).

The virus, as movie viruses go, is pretty unmemorable (apart from the part where it kills people). That means no ebola-style displays of people sharting their own insides out :frowning:

No splatterfests to be had here…

This is a thinking person’s plague movie, where the focus is on the socio-political implications of a global pandemic rather than on the virus itself: it and Gywneth Paltrow are just MacGuffins to facilitate scenes of social breakdown in the wake of the disaster, and the search for a cure - which usually dominates this type of flick - is quickly resolved.

Scenes of looting were really downplayed considering this was meant of be an accurate depiction of would happen if such an event was to occur.

Solid movie. I didn’t regret watching it, but I’d quite happily have waited for the DVD if I hadn’t been talked into seeing it.

Red State. I liked it. The preacher was the high point of the movie.
OK I have read 3 dif things about this movie. Drama, Action, thriller.

Without giving up to many spoilers what is it. Tell us Master Blaster inquiring minds need to know.
Three boys trolling for pussy on the internet when they get more than they bargained for. It starts off as typical horror/suspense, then it goes into action/thriller. The preacher is the highlight of the movie. That man could sell water to a water snake. That makes no sense, but the preacher is the highlight.

It is NOT pure horror.
It takes the Westboro Baptist Church to the logical extreme, and answers the question “What would happen if these people would stop at nothing to make the world the way they want it?”

Not horror at all, just horrifically awful people.

John Goodman is very good in his role as well as the preacher (Michael Parks - sheriff from Kill Bill vol 1).
Agreed. Goodman surprised me…even though his screwed up way of walking and generally carrying himself makes me wonder how much damage his earlier extreme obesity actually caused.

The Preacher didn’t break character once. He could have been a real person. He didn’t overplay it at all.

I thought the movie went left for a while near the end when “that thing” happened but it didn’t.
Watched this yesterday, pretty entertaining. Preacher knocked it out of the park, fucking awesome acting.

Goodman looks in fucking pain just to move, did he get the Gastric Bypass?

Sheriff McGraw actually died in the first FDTD.
Hmm, I forgot about that. Clearly he survived and crawled out before the fire. Anyhow, I think they were talking about it in one of the Grindhouse DVD commentaries. No biggie though.

Big thank you to whichever one of you guys called Netflix and told them to make Red State available in the Instant queue. Could’ve sworn it wasn’t there a few weeks ago, but it is now, and I saw it the other day. Definitely a good movie with a very solid performance by Parks and Goodman.

It felt fast paced, almost rushed, but not in much of a bad way. I wouldn’t have minded an extra 20 or 30 minutes in the first half just to give the Preacher more screentime, not that the story needed anything extra.

This only re-emphasizes what a bummer it is that Big Kev Smith isn’t making movies anymore. When he’s on, he’s on.

Supposedly not, just cut out booze and sugar and working with a trainer.

But he did look disturbingly haggard, even for a guy nearing 60.

Well, he succeeded at being a symbol of why to avoid morbid obesity especially later in life. It hurts to watch him move.

Showdown in little Tokyo, The Happening 2, The Kings Speech.

Agreed

Tintin and the secret of the unicorn

Really well made, stunning detail and pretty funny!
I liked it a lot.

The Happening 2??? didn’t know there was one. 1st sucked, how was the 2nd?

Just saw Red State last night, because of this thread, I enjoyed it, thought John Goodman was great. Waco and Ruby Ridge anyone???

LOL @ “The happening 2”.

That was a joke, right?

Same here Matty watched yesterday morning instead of watching Pre-Game.

Yes shot at Waco and Ruby for sure.

“The Perfect Host”

This could have gone into the “Movies That Shoulda Sucked” thread.

Do not read the synopsis, do not view the trailer.
Just watch the film and be surprised. Devilishly entertaining. David Hyde Pierce was unexpectedly fantastic.
New movie? or been out for awhile, hopefully on Netflix
1. Yes, instant view on Netflix.

Thank you my friend.

I hated that movie. My least favorite Jason movie.

Agree. Parts IV and VI were my faves.

Re-watched John Carpenter’s The Thing last night after coming home from trick or treating with my Thor. It’s a Halloween staple for me and I especially wanted to re-visit it after seeing that prequel thing.

Man does that movie still hold up. It’s fucking moody, downbeat, and no amount of “advances” in new SFX technology can beat the sheer imagination and impact of the creature’s transformations.

Nor could anyone ever beat Kurt Russell’s beard. Ever.

Paranormal Activity 3: Not a huge fan of the series, but I think this one is probably the best of the three. Worth a watch.
